Hi all I took of the springs under the machine, the top is loose but it is hanging up on the dial a nap nob. How do I remove this nob to free the top piece. Thanks Mike for the help so far.

Just remove the star shaped screw in the center of the knob and the hood will come right off

you should use a "torx" key/bit. there are more torx screws under the hood.

Thanks!!!!!!

Ok It worked, the screw was so filled with dirt I did not know it was a torx screw. Now is the bottom bearing replaceable? and what is the correct fan to order from Hesco?

Thanks For the help

Ive been using the nylon "Durafan". Its supposed to be more shatter-resistant than the standard Lexan. #77247355n

Lexan #12988

These are for the double ball-bearing, pancake (heavy duty) motors.

Is this a double ball bearing motor

Hi I see A upper bearing plate that seems to hold a 8mm bearing similar to a kirby rear bearing. This looks easy to replace but is the lower bearing also in a plate or is it a sleeve style bearing.I am wondering if this motor was designed to be serviced or replaced when the bearings go bad? Hesco sells the replacement motors for $40.00. I wanted to fix it and sell it locally and make a small profit.

Yes, the bearing can be replaced. See the 1400 bearing thread thats up right now.

In my experience, the heavy duty Eureka motors have very long lasting bearings. Ive serviced Sanitaire machines that have seen heavy daily use and their bearings sound smooth as silk.

Seems most techs would replace the entire lower motor housing rather than go thru the trouble of drilling rivets.

Unless the bearings were ruined somehow, I think its very reasonable to just leave them be. Youd sooner wear out the belt pulley or the carbons before wearing out the bearings.

The carbons in the Eureka pancake motors last a LOOONG time as well.
