I found this at Good Will last night, for just $15! Thanks to my OCD, it turned out nicely. My hands have been wrinkled for 2 days from the dish water, but it was well worth it! Hope you guys enjoy the before and after pics. I just have to get new bags and filters for it. These retail for about $700-800 from what I have seen online. I will upload the before pics, then the after pics.

Andrew

Hello Andrew

will this machine take the same bags as the windsor versa matic because I think that I might have one or two bags that I can send your way

Mike

Bag type?

vacfanatic's profile picture
Hi Mike - I am not sure if those bags would fit or not. If someone else can confirm, I would surely appreciate your offer! I just got this cleaned up today, and am a bit sad I can't use it yet. I don't know of a dealer in town that sells these bags for sure, so I was going to try to find some online. It was a dirty dirty vacuum as you can see! I just can not believe how people can trash their vacuums so much.

Talk about over full!

So did the vac get in that condition because someone never bothered to change the bag?

Bags?

That particular machine is a Lindhaus RX 380 which has been manufactured to Nilfisk Advance specifications. You will need to look for Lindhaus R4 bags; these fit the Healthcare Pro and RX series.

Great pictures. Talk about schmutz but that's pretty much par for the course on thrift store vacs etc. Great cleanup job

Looks like there's a phone number on that paper bag to call for parts/accessories?

Good Will Condition

vacfanatic's profile picture
This vacuum was apparently dumped off at good will since it had no suction. There was a piece of plastic that was jammed up in the nozzle suction port, and all that hair and crap was jammed inside as well. The bag was actually only about half full, and stunk like vomit. The brushroll did not turn when I fired it up, there was a baby sock jammed around the brushroll and it would immediately trip the nozzle motor safety. Whoever had this was in my opinion, not very skilled with vacuum maintenance. I totally disassembled the vacuum and washed everything in hot soapy antibacterial detergent. It no longer smells at all! I'm sure the motors will run much cooler now also.

What a difference.

You did an excellent job cleaning up that vacuum, it looks brand new. I just don't understand why people don't care of their appliances anymore. Then they bitch, moan, and complain that they don't work, blame it on the machine or the manufacturer. I'm not that skilled when it comes to vacuum cleaners, but I at least know what to look for when there is no suction besides changing the bag.

Very very well done, Andrew.

aeoliandave's profile picture
Many a vacuum has come into my house from the curbside or Thrift store in that condition. One wonders how a Thrift Shop can put vacuums on the floor for sale with full bags and clogs, knowing full well they wont vacuum, but they do. But if they didn't we'd never stumble across them because they'd be buried at the landfill with all the others that will never make it back to this world of refurbishment.

Again, excellent thorough cleaning up job on a great looking heavy duty vacuum.

That is the same thing as the Tornado carpetkeeper clean air that is use at the office I work at. The bags should be the same as that.

Call it an Advance, not a Nilfisk

Andrew,

That machine is known in the commercial cleaning world as an Advance Carpetwin, not a Nilfisk. Advance is an old-line U.S.-based commercial machine manufacturer that merged into Nilfisk about a decade ago, IIRC. The folks who sell bags, parts and supplies will refer to it as an Advance machine.

If you want to see a U.S.-built, Advance-designed Carpetwin, try this one -- the current model of a machine that's been in production for 40+ years:

Bisonian

Can that model you linked to really clean a carpet effectively, in just one pass?

Date of Manufacture

According to the label on the vac, it was made Dec 05, 2000.

Re: the Carpetwin 16XP

Calum,

Keep in mind the 16XP is designed for daily use on low-pile commercial carpet, such as hospital or hotel lobbies and corridors. An institutional/business housekeeping department is more about efficiency than really deep cleaning most of the time. With high suction power (clean air design) and an aggressive brushroll, the 16XP and its similarly-designed "one-pass" competitors do an acceptable job quickly. Heavy duty construction means less downtime. Other factors -- filtration, for example -- are secondary.

I think this is a testament to the power of this vacuum just for the amount of dirt that was packed into the nozzle and fill tube. Either that or it came from a very filthy environment.

In any case great clean up and restoration.
