Bought a very nice metal base Hoover Guardsman from The Vac Hospitals "Unclaimed" pile. The machine is in pretty good shape-runs nicely.Has a Red hood with headlight.Base is unpainted polished metal. The machine has a plastic fan-Was this standard in metal based Hoover Guardsmans? Also it has an orange colored outer bag and uses Hoover "A" inner paper bags. The unit has a commercial 3 wire cord.Felt I got a good buy-would love to picture it-but I don't have a camera. At the Vac Hospital out here machines left over 30 days I get first picks at them.Glad I found this one-its a real beauty-Why would someone "Abandon" a vac as nice as this?

Yes, Hoover switched to plastic fans on their Convertibles even when the main castings were still aluminum. Is the original bag on yours? IMO the original hounds tooth patterned outer bag is a little too orange for the machine.

My Guardsman is shamelessly non-original, with a genuine Hoover black cloth shakeout bag, classic style aluminum fan and genuine Hoover "Carpet Groomer" agitator. It kicks ass!

Mine looks like the first picture shown-the bright houndstooth pattern outer bag-and the bag is in really nice shape. Its not real dirty or torn. The machine looks like its had careful or gentle use.The fan isn't real worn either-would like to put a metal fan in it at some time.always have liked metal vac fans best.At how well it works going to leave it alone and enjoy the machine! The brush strips were one of the parts replaced. They are brand new.I would have to ask Bill what other parts were replaced on it.

Here's a picture of my Gradma's. I cleaned it up for her. I offered several time to trade her for a power drive machine. But she did say she'd put my name on the bottom.
