Hey Rob and Paul -

According to the Hoover Company Handbook, published in about 1958, Serial Numbers ranged from 9,160,001 to 9,451,654. The date range shown is 1956 - 1957. There is also a 84-B with Serial Numbers of 9,451,655 to 9,680,984, dated 1957 - 1958. I'm not sure about the "B" model distinction.

Rob and Paul,

The UK serial numbers and manufacturing dates will be different from the US connies. Ours was the 862, produced between 1958 and 1962 IIRC, I dont have my HOOVER parts catalogues to hand right now, but I will check as soon as I can. Then if anyone requires a machine dating, I can usually manage it within 6 months. :D

Happy hoovering guys.

Clark.

I don't have the serial number of the 822A to hand, but the 862's is: 358398 - so between Jan and July '61?

Cheers guys, I did actually mean for you to all post your indibidual serial numbers etc - we have the date information.

Just wondered who had what in terms of age etc.

Mike would we ever keep something quiet????

Mike, fancy there being a gap of say 117 cleaners still being alive today, and so bloody close together too.

Where did you find yours?

Ours is 74,868!!!!!!!

Ours was from Darlaston,.

God I love things like this.

862 Pink/Grey

Hey Mike

Im assuming those figures include the grey version as well- does the list indicate when the colour changed at all?.

My grey one has a pink rating plate- presumably its a pretty early example and Hoover were still using stocks of pink plates ??
