You should really read James Dyson's autobiography, "Against The Odds". He details the hell that the Hoover company put him through when he went to them in 1980 with his idea for a bagless cleaner. By the way, "The One" is already a name used by Hoover UK for their bagless cleaner with a filter in it.

To obtain a patent, an idea must be original (not 'prior art') so you'll have to do a patent search. I can point you in the right direction if you wish. It's EXPENSIVE to get a patent, and it has to be renewed every year (which costs money). You'll need to find a manufacturer to go into production with your idea if you ever want to see a dime out of it.

The Hoover Company no longer makes cleaners in America, except for the old style steam vac and the commerical cleaners. Regular Hoovers (like the Windtunnel) are made in Mexico and other Hoovers (like the Fusion) are made in China. Some Hoovers (like the Duros canister) are made by Sanyo and labeled a Hoover. Others, like the Hoover Electronic Bagless canister are made by LG in Korea and get a Hoover power nozzle as well as the Hoover name badge.

I once designed a bagless chamber for the Signature Series Air-Way, we called it the Air-Way Extreme. But the company (Air-Way) didn't want to give up the profit from bags. So my idea still sits on a shelf, waiting for the day when I win the lottery and buy the Air-Way factory from Steve.

Dial a Matic...you are very wise not to post any pictures of your machine if you want to keep your idea to yourself. I would NOT contact Hoover as they are in the midst of an ownership change. However you are more than welcome to come to North Canton and I will be glad to show you around the Hoover Historical Center. They do not allow tours of the plant at this time. I am not sure about the patent process. You may want to hire a lawyer first before talking to anyone about the details. I do wish you the best in your invention. Who knows you could be the next Murray Spangler!

Prototype...

How do I make a prototype? I just got home from school and I want to thank you all for your help!

Andy.

Tom a I have a hoover convertible 706 and I took itm all apart only to discover bare wireing inside of it. Can you help me put it together? Then if you want, you can keep it but you would promise to keep it as it was my aunts husbands mothers vacuum. It is in fair condition.

Thanks, Andy
