Just yesterday my friend (and VCCC member) Jim Barnhart took me to meet his friend Brent who has a vac shop in Ashland, OH. Brent checked out a couple vacuums that I had concerns with and switched ends from a junk Lux hose to a NOS replacement hose that I had brought along. And while we were there, he gave me a Rotarex!!
I started working on it shortly after I got home, after taking the usual photos in front of the garage door (which will be posted after I finish the roll of film!). I got most of the polishing done and with a generous dose of oil got the motor spinning freely. The fan is in fine shape with no nicks or cracks. It has the original bag which says "Rotarex, Built By Apex," wooden handle, and original cloth covered cord! When I fired it up it ran smoothly and sounded just like a straight suction Royal or Electro-Hygiene!!
Anyway, I know nothing about this machine, other than it was built by Apex and appears to have been made sometime in the teens or 20's. Can anyone tell me more about when it was made, or who sold them? Was there an identical machine with the Apex name on it? Any info would be appreciated!!
Thanks,
Jeff
