It seems like vacuums made today are built cheaper-plastic fans, plastic motor housings, etc. like those 1995-built Eureka Powerline Pluses and World Vacs. Those things were junk! The vacuums of yesterday seemed to be built more sturdy-more metal parts like fans, motor housings and stuff like the older metal Eureka vacuums and Kirby Classic III's.

I can agree-not only the cheapo plastic parts-but cheapo motors too-found these in new Filter Queen and TriStar.no more US Lamb motors-just the Chinese junk disposable motors.Also don't like the all plastic Filter Queens with the rocker hi-low switch for both speed and power-miss that nice "paddle" switch they used to use-no longer interested in newer plastic FQ machines.Yes-YES-please bring back the METAL machines with METAL parts and US made motors.the plastic vacs today are just good dumpster bait when they break.I am kicking myself for getting rid of a METAL FQ machine I bought new years ago.Sold it during a move-Now I am asking myself why I didn't keep it.I think FQ should go back to the metal construction-a brushed or polished SS container would be very nice-and the same ol more powerful US Lamb motors.

Modern Vacs & Appliances

 I have gone through 3 Royal Dirt Devil uprights, and a Hoover Wind Tunnel upright, when I was living in my old apartment. After the Hoover bit the dust, I decided no more of the new junk for me. I went to a vacuum shop that has been selling and repairing vacuums for over 50 years. and bought a Kirby Legend II.

I think the older vacs were built better so they would last longer. Everything is so disposable today, not just vacuums either. Look at all the older vacs on here, and the older washers, dryers, dishwashers, on the AW site. People took pride in making good quality appliances back then, which is something you don't see very often today.

I have

A GE cannister I just love that is fairly new but cheaply made I am sure it wont last forever. I went to wal mart recently and they dont even sell cannisters with PN;s anymore.

I wa sin wal mart a couple of weeks ago and happened to see the GE canister that they are selling. those have Power heads but are really cheaply made. and I think that they want $167 for them. to tell the truth I would not even pay 5 dollars for one.
