Unfortunately, unlike other members here who have gotten good progress in vacuum sobriety, I’ve fallen off the wagon today, double so!
Earlier this week on my lunch break, I stopped by Salvation Army and saw some vacs. One was a Shop Vac Mighty Mini canister vac of the 1980s with its box and attachments inside. I don’t buy any vacs that day. But today I went back to look at something else and saw that Mighty Mini still there. Unfortunately I decided to look closer at what was in the box and discovered there was also a vintage set of Hoover attachments in the box, in their original vinyl carry bag as well as some paper work. I couldn’t pass up those vintage Hoover tools, so for $8 I bought the whole assortment. Then, headed home, I saw the familiar silhouette of an Electrolux tank sitting on the side of the road. It had a nice vinyl hose with it too. I at first started to not pick it up, but that hose was too nice to leave, so I turned around and threw it in the trunk. I’m not up on the models, but it’s gray and silver and has the wheel to adjust the auto shutoff. It also had the power nozzle with it, a version with a headlight. It’s dirty and rusty but it could all be salvageable. I couldn’t really just leave if behind, but I really should have. So yes, now I’ve failed today doubly so! |

Woo hoo!
Misery loves company. I can't seem to stick to my guns when I say I'm not going to buy any more. I'm happy to hear that I'm in good company! I'm sure I would have done the same thing. Especially with the Electrolux. That sounds like the style that I'm currently hoping to acquire. So, for free, there's no way I could have passed it up; even if it's not in optimal condition. I'm sure you can clean it up to look somewhat decent. And the vintage Hoover tools sound cool. I hope you'll post pictures of everything! I will say congratulations, even if you didn't really intend to bring them all home. |

Sounds like you rescued a Silverado. I would probably have grabbed it too; in fact, resurrected one a few years ago. I was initially mad with myself that I'd bought something in such bad condition, so I left it in a visible spot in the barn to remind myself not to make the same mistake again. Of course, a few months later, I was a little bored, got together the parts I needed, and spent the weekend cleaning it up and getting it running again. It's not perfect by any means. These days, it sports an ivory colored power switch from an Olympia One and a couple of off-the-shelf components from Lowe's--a front caster and a replacement plug. While it may come close to winning the ugly Electrolux award at my house, it's serviceable and will do what I need it to do without me worrying about messing it up.
