Just curious about the air path inside this Kenmore upright: how does the dirty air get from the brush roll chamber up to the top of bag compartment? If this is a Dial-a-Matic clone, you would expect to see some external hose dropping down from the back of the bag compartment to the base where the brushroll is kicking up the dirt.

I would have to find and look at mine. I have seen maybe 3 in 30 years. It also has hose port in back for optional attachments . |

Thanks Jimmy! It looks like the dirt transfers over from the base to the bag compartment using a hollow duct in the axle.
The other difference between this Kenmore and the DAM is that the motor resides in the base, not in the bottom of the bag compartment. Which means that the suction it generates must also go through the other side of the hollow axle. Can’t believe this convoluted air path would provide powerful suction for carpet cleaning or hose cleaning. Kind of reminds me of the configuration in the British Electrolux 502 upright from the 1970’s….where the handle axle has ducts to move the air between the base and the bag compartment. |
