Very nice!

I love Filter Queen, it's like using a shop vac for inside the house. Same with Rainbow, Silver King, FairFax, Numatic, etc.

I'll add my congrats

I'd write "nice find" but it kinda found you! I love my pink 2-speed model 31. It makes a great vac for my model train room. Low speed is perfect for layout scenery work, and if I suck up something by mistake, it's easy to retrieve it. Not having a curved hose handle makes it very easy to use in tight spots.

I'd polish the commutator in the armature first before replacing the brushes or the motor.

Coil

It's a process of elimination.
Commutator
Carbon brushes
Field coil
Armature

If it runs normally for a short time and then begins arcing and slowing down, that indicates that one of the carbon brushes is sticking...one of the less serious and more easily remedied issues that a motor can have.

Try taking it apart and replacing (or just removing, cleaning, and reinstalling) the carbon brushes.

My Thoro-Matic commercial canister that I use on service calls was modified many years ago with a motor from a Filter Queen and it has done the same thing to a greater or lesser extent for years. It's been fine lately and I never even got around to servicing it, but there have been times when I thought the motor was on its way out.

On the other hand, if it runs slowly and arcs at the brushes continuously, the motor is permanently damaged and needs to be replaced (unless you want to try your hand at re-winding the motor...)

Usually that does solve the problem from my end. Can't say for certain as what Owen pointed out, it could be either the brushes or the motor itself has gone bad if polishing the commutator doesn't do it.

Blue sparks

Is usually a color of electrical issues. I've had 2 ds80s burn up because of faulty coils and it was blue.
Idk it could be commutator going bad but my money if it's not comutator or brushes it's faulty coil not producing enough current and u tested the comutator with voltage meter it's the coil.
