Well, another thrifting adventure resulted in another vacuum acquisition.
I have a Dirt Devil 103 with its original box. But, today, I found what I believe is a Dirt Devil Plus. It’s black, with yellow graphics, and has “500” and a sort of checkered flag theme. Unlike the 103, this one has a two-speed switch. Like my 103, this one came in its original box. But, it has a bunch of extra goodies with it. I haven’t even taken it out of the box yet to take inventory. But, I know there’s an owner’s manual, a hose and some attachments, and some spare disposable bags. That would lead me to believe that it has an adapter.
The main unit itself looks pretty dirty. But, the outer bag looks pretty clean. At least, on the outside.
The box is a little beat up, but I’m still happy to have it. I like original boxes!
I’m guessing this model is probably 1990s?

Oh. And I forgot to mention, it only cost $5. I couldn’t pass on it for that price.

Nice score. The goodies usually run $20 on ebay.

Barry,

The very first Dirt Devil hand vacs with the two-speed switch were models 523 Plus (standard red trim) and the 533 Pro Series (magnum blue trim).

I found a similar model in the box for $8. Theses are some of my favorite hand vacs, hope you love it.

Mine,

looks like that except it plugs into my truck cigarette lighter.

I took it all out of the box today.
The motor seems fine, and sounds good.
But, she sure is a dirty little devil! I think mice may have been hanging out in the box, although nothing looks chewed.
And, it doesn't have all of the goodies with it. All it came with is the hose, a crevice tool, and an adapter with all of the foam gasket missing.
It was supposed to include a belt lifter tool, and possibly a dusting brush and upholstery tool. I'm not 100% sure on the attachments. I'll have to take a closer look at the pictures on the box.

Love these little machines!

They're the only direct air machines I have no problem with using as I prefer bypass vacuums myself. This would've been a perfect match with a Panasonic Performance Plus MC-6357 for example because it's also black and has yellow but more like gold decals. And I also think the red ones would've been a perfect match with a rosso SEBO X4 for example as well since the hoses had a similar color. Anyways, I just yesterday bought a 10 pack of type G bags and style 1 belts from Amazon for the red ones that I use since they have a deal I couldn't pass up on. Ebay also has similar deals as well but I like that I can simply return them on Amazon if I choose to do so.

I'm more a fan of the all metal Royal Prince 501's, but all that for $5, you got a real bargain. I'm sure it'll clean up nicely.

I have a metal 501 in its original box with all its paperwork, for which I paid considerably more than $5. The only thing it was missing was the dusting brush, but I had one on hand from a little wet/dry shop vac I used to have. It was identical to the one that would have come with the vacuum, except it was a different color--dove gray instead of white--but who cares? Thank goodness for generic accessories.
