Dan,
I believe what you have is a model 231 from the mid 1970s. Starting in 1974 they were built with a receptacle for the optional power nozzle (model 497 from 1974-80, then 597 from 1980-85). I remember on your eBay store you many years ago had a rebuilt Royal 801 upright from the 1960s that had its original 350-watt motor changed to a 7-amp one (as used in models 994, 996 and 9700 among others). That replacement motor assembly made for a very powerful machine! ~Ben |

That is a beautiful canister indeed! However, they weren't actually made by Royal but built FOR Royal by Kingston from 1945 to 1987. There were several different model numbers including 201, 231, 565, and 975 and besides the Royal name itself, were made as Regal, Electro-Hygiene, Electro-Grand (a division of Electro-Hygiene), and Stark, like yours. They were also made in several different colors, including light green, medium green, blue (the most common across these brands), red, and pink. Most had grey attachments like yours, but I think some of the blue ones may have had blue attachments. I've never owned one of these and have only seen a few in person but have seen several posted here over the years. Hoping to add a model 565 Electro-Hygiene to my collection someday. Hope this is helpful.
