Hi all.
As I mentioned in a different Oreck thread, someone I know had a Commercial upright; model XL2100RHS. It's a 2016 TTI model. I was told in advance that it wouldn't power on. My hope was the simple disconnected wire inside the Helping Hand. (Which I learned about from the helpful folks on this site!) That's the first thing I checked, but all looks fine. Next, I opened up the bottom cover to see if there was anything jammed in the fan. Eureka! (Or...Oreck?) There was what appeared to be a sock, completely jammed inside the fan housing. Aside from that, and a couple of superficial gouges to the front corners of the base, the machine looks virtually brand new. No funky smells. Everything is still nice and shiny; even inside. It is missing the two screws that attach the upper portion of the handle to the connector. But they shouldn't be too hard to find. The black reinforcement brace thing is there, but no screws to hold everything together. I was practically giddy, believing that all would be perfect, once I removed the offending hosiery. But, when I got everything back together and clicked the switch...nothing. It acts just like when the wires to the switch are loose or disconnected. But, we've already ruled that out. Does anyone have any other ideas as to why it won't run? Could it be that, when the sock jammed up the motor, it was left on for too long, and the motor overheated and burned out? I don't even know if that's possible. I'm just so disappointed that such a clean, low mileage machine might just be trash after all. Thank you for any help. |

I'd get an electrical tester and check everything that the power flows through. Cord, switch, wires, and the motor. I can't tell what's exactly wrong but based on your description it sounds like that the motor had died. If the fan was jammed while running for too long it can certainly burn the motor out.

It's actually very easy to diagnose, and it doesn't have to be with the electricity on. You just test one end and see if you can get a reading on the other end. And it's very inexpensive to get a tester, I have one of these Harbor Freight ones that are like super cheap. They can be for more than just testing vacuums but for other electrical things as well. For example I used one to test out a dishwasher and tells me that I needed this certain part replaced.
www.harborfreight.com/7-f... Another way to test to see if the motor is bad or not is to swap the motor out from one of your other Orecks to confirm that it's the motor or something else. |
