This is sort of just a vent post. So I go to a model railroad club every week or so, I'm pretty close with everyone, and they're supposedly close with me. In terms of vacuums, they have A Eureka Airspeed rewind machine, and a Dirt Devil Dash. How either of then made it to this year is beyond me, but their belts finally gave out on them. I didn't think they were worth fixing, so I thought I would go say "Hey, if I picked out a vacuum for you to use, would you buy it?" And when I eventually do, I'm told that somebody was already going to get a new vacuum, and said person specifically stated that they wanted a bagless vacuum.
Like I said, I'm pretty close with these people, and I have voiced my opinions on the current machines they have, and why they're bad, and the response that I got when I asked why they didn't get a bagged vacuum was "the guys in the club wouldn't bother to change it". I was pretty livid at him. That argument is so hypocritical, cuz the machines they have now were not taken care of either, but suddenly a bag is where the line is drawn?? I get that they are in no way obligated to take my recommendations, but, not to toot my own horn, but I'm kind of the only vacuum enthusiast there, and I have some idea of what would suit the club the best. Instead, they chose to go the cheap and easy route, and buy presumably another cheap bagless pile of junk that'll probably break within a few years (unless by some chance they buy an Amway Cleartrak or something). I really feel backstabbing, because they never bothered to ask me because "I'm not the maintenance guy". |

"you can lead a horse to water..." It's always frustrating to try to help somebody who isn't interested in help. |

Exactly. It's one thing for someone to be ignorant of what's good and what's not, it's an entirely different thing to turn down my suggestions all because they can't be bothered to change a bag, WHEN THEY CAN'T EVEN PROPERLY MAINTAIN A BAGLESS VACUUM TO BEGIN WITH. It's like the logic of automatic toilet sensors. "Oh well people can be slobs who can't be bothered to flush a toilet, so let's make everyone suffer with sensors that jumpscare the user of them!" Part of me just wants to bring and use one of my machines from home, but I'm not sure how my parents would feel about bringing a vacuum full of other people's dirt to-and-from their houses.

With all the vacuums in my collection, I use a Power glide/pet, made by Bissell. A bagless vacuum that I have used for a few years now. I have watched my friends and neighbors go threw a number of "throwaway vacuums" just because they don't know or care that these vacuums require regular maintenance to keep them running at their best like any vacuum Bag or bagless.

You're correct, but the guys at my club don't know/don't bother trying to keep the machines they have maintained, regardless of its type. Like I said before, the belt issues probably could be fixed (which they tried to do on the Eureka.... with a Panasonic belt), but I don't see it as worth while in my eyes. They both leak out plenty of dust for one thing, and they're a pain to clean regularly. Like seriously, if they're that big of lazy slobs as I've been told, then that's a problem that needs addressing, not a band-aid solution. If they did bother to take the infrequent amount of time and moned usually needed to take care of a bagged machine, then they'd have a good vacuum on their hands.
