Was curious of everyone's favorite vintage canisters. I'm an Electrolux fan myself, a couple family members had them when I was a kid so the nostalgia is strong. They always sounded so nice, and the PNs have a unique growl sound, likely from the cogged belt. I have an AP280 and an Ambassador 3, but I'd love to have a metal body (Super J or Silverado) at some point. The older models (ie G or L) are cool too, though Lux was still figuring out their power nozzle situation. By the 1205 they seemed to have gotten rid of the hose pigtails and had a nice clean setup.

My personal favorite is my Electrolux xxx, my second favorite is the Hoover spirit canister. It’s so quiet and has great suction. There are so many more.

1960’s: Eureka Empress with white braided hose
1970’s: Orange Eureka Roto-Matic Power Team (I think Model 1265)
1980’s: Deluxe Eureka Express with Electronic Power Control

Hoover Constellations are classic too! They were cool. I should have got pictures but I just picked up a Lux LE from the 80s. It was in rough shape. The owner was running it without a bag I think (the bag switch was gone, and the auto full bag stop was bypassed also). Anyway it sounded horrible but I just did a refurb on the motor, cleaned the bearings and repacked the ball bearing. The brushes were stuck in their holders with dirt. It runs great now, though the body is still in rough shape. It'll be my garage vacuum.

I'm kind of a canister guy...

I love that so much creativity went into the aesthetics of canisters, so much more than traditionally went into uprights. I especially love Electrolux canisters, of which I have several--a pair of 1205s, a Super J, a Silverado Deluxe, a Diamond J, and a Diplomat LX. The only Electrolux I'm aware of in the family was my grandparents' LX. I'd really love to find one like theirs. I also have a soft spot for metal Eureka canisters and the old Lewyts that look like fire hydrants.

Here's the LE I fixed. Cleaned up pretty well. Replacement hose of course.

Royal Pony Tanks

I love my Royal 4700 and 4600. They were made so well even in the late 90’s up until 2002 when they were discontinued with a lot of metal used In their construction. With 100 lbs. of water lift and the Panasonic style power nozzle used starting in 1994 these became one of the best canisters of all time IMO. It’s a shame you can’t hardly find parts for them anymore!

Favorite Vintage Canisters.

I love using the battery Perfect Power Nozzle with the straight suction models. Who knew a 1940 Rexair or Electrolux could thoroughly clean a carpet?

I rotate these vintage canisters, so they all see one week of service every year. There are many more. These are my favorites.
