So,

I have a great mother. I've been blessed with a top notch gal. She has always looked for machines for me, and now that she's retired; she goes to PLENTY of estate sales. She hits up anything in the tri-county area from her house in Lansing.

She calls me the Thursday before Labor Day and say to me thru her crackly old cell phone:

MOM- "Hi honey, I'm out at an estate sale and I've found this old sweeper for you for three dollars. I diddn't even know it was here until I head another person run it. They pushed it back from them and said it was too old.".

Me- " Well ma, what kind is it? Is it an upright or a canister?".

Mom- "Well it says Montgomery Ward" on it, and it's an upright!".

Me- "Oh really!!! What else does it say?"

Mom- "It says MontgomeryWard WideStroke VibraBEAT TwoSpeed on it. It's this choclatey brown and white".

Me- "I dropped the phone"

Mom- "Hello honey are you there??. I have three other places to go to...don't dawdle...you there???".

Me- Yes ma.

Mom- "Well do you want it?".

Me- "How much did you say it was?".

Mom- "Are you deaf I said three dollars just a minute ago...Did you not get enough sleep last night? Go to bed like a normal person".

Me- "I got plenty of sleep mother!, I'm just a tad flustered at what you've found. "Well I'll tell you this: if you leave it there, I'll throw you in the Grand River".

Mom- "Guess that mean you want it then?".

Me- "Oh mom!!!! you've found a way to crack a home run in your lifetime!". Grab onto it tightly and do not let it go until it hits the floor of your trunk.

Mom- "Chad Michael, no ones gonna take it from me just relax". I'm buying it now. A few moments later I heard the trunk on her new Grand Marquis click shut..."there honey you have your vacuum".

Me- Oh mom....I love you! You've definitly hit a home run today. Dinner on me Saturday night Ok!

Mom- Okay honey see you then..love you.

So that was my first find of Labor Day.

And here is the machine that caused that conversation to happen. IN glamourous HotFudge And Frosting White Color..

The M-W WideStroke VibraBeat TwoSpeed... Introduced in the 1978 Fall and Winter catalog.... with Christie Brinkley In the cover!

Chad,

that was a great find that your mother got you, you are soooo lucky. I am pea green with envy. Even though that is a replacement bag, it looks like it was made for that model.
Hope you enjoy it.

Sam

Holy Smokes, Chad. That's a serious looking machine. I'm sure you'll come up with bumper keepers but right now it's like the Hulk undergoing transformation. :-)

Just how wide is that brushroll?

I like your Mom.

Just how wide is that brushroll?

I think it's like 15.5 inches or soemthing like that give or take a half an inch for deadzone for the bearings, the endcaps, and the wall of the vacuum base. Of course this half an inch would be distributed evenly on both sides. LOL

I did have bumper keepers in stock for the machine, and in some of the pictures you can see I had put htem on. Again was totally devine interetnion that I had those in the Sanitaire stacks downstairs.

Yeah My Mom, Cheryl is her name a middle 50 something retired from the State of Michigan lady, has always been my anchor. I can SERIOUSLY tell you that I wouldn't be here today talking had it not been for her. And the best part is that now we get along great ( yay for growing up a bit), and she supports my hobby.

Yeah I'm quite a lucky kid. Wouldn't trade her EVER, even for a Hoover Cord-Reel Convertible. Though for my youngest sister tho I'd sell her up the river for one...LOL

Thanks again for the reply

Chad
