A friend of mine just gave me a Hyla NST. Well, they gave me most of the parts to a Hyla NST. They didn't have the water container or the bare floor attachment, but I got the dolly part, the main motor unit, two stainless telescoping wands, power nozzle (Wessel Werk with fluorescent headlight), and two hoses (one electrified, one for wet vacuuming).

I have turned on the motor and it runs, but sounds kinda snarly when it winds down. No arcing or burning or ozone smells--I haven't had a chance to open up the motor and look at the armature, the bearings, or the brushes to see how much life is left in this motor.

My question is: is it worth getting the water container for this vacuum? I would have to get the container and then add on the clamps to hold on the motor unit and the outlet for the suction hose. Total at retail would be about $90 + shipping. The power nozzle could use a new brush roll (something evidently got wound around it in one place and melted away the bristles in one spot. I have disassembled, cleaned, and tested the power nozzle and it seems to work as nicely as my Miele WW power nozzle.

Have people had experience with these Hyla vacuums? I tried a Rainbow once (about 10-15 years ago) for a week and it didn't filter out pet dander very well (I have large dogs and moderate allergies to dander and most non-soluble dust, so I've always stayed with a bagged vacuum). How would the Hyla compare?

Any advice would be appreciated, and I am thrilled to have two stainless wands and a Wessel Werk power nozzle that I can modify to use with other vacuums, so not going for getting the water tank and running the system wouldn't be the end of the world. Does anyone have access to used or cut-price parts that would be less than the retail of the new tank assembly?

Thanks

I have sold many Hyla's. They are almost the exact same as Rainbow as far as cleaning and suction goes. If you want to sell it I would be interested. I don't like them myself but I have people who love them.
