Got this today from a local vac shop! I regretted selling off my old red one to clear up space so I went to get a new one. Brand new on display but surprisingly from the Eureka/Electrolux era. The grey shake out looks nice! Not a 679 but actually a 684 cause the motor is still the newer higher pitched one. But this thing is an absolute monster. WILL NOT sell this one off. Especially cause these Sanitaires are insanely nostalgic for me.

Nice find! I've been wanting one with the magnet accessory for awhile. I just have the basic model now. I actually won one of the models like yours above but the eBay seller never shipped it. They had about 40 of them and never shipped anyone else's either, and they got hit with like -20 negative feedback and got banned from eBay.

eBay has been absolutely nothing but problems with me lately. In fact the last two vacuums I ordered came completely JUNKED! Careless people basically selling stuff for a high amount while packaging the unit absolutely horrifically. This Sanitaire I bought in part to replace one of my second floor vacs. Im not repair savvy and I don't usually go to shops for repairs so I had to get rid of my 90s Hoover PowerDrive, sadly. The self propelled mechanism was practically FROZEN in the on position, and it started to smell of burning after I had already replaced the belt. Definitely had some use before it got to me so parting with it that way stinks for sure. Nothing lasts forever though :( but I always try to keep all my vacs pristine. Im sorry you had that experience with the seller. I'm definitely never ordering off there again.

Oh I'll still keep ordering, it's just when a seller is a scammer you have money tied up for +/- 2 weeks which is irritating considering you've waited 3 weeks for the seller to ship it already. Also the fact you find the vacuum you always wanted and then you never get it.

And yes that sounds like the condition that every vacuum I have is in. They haven't been used for 25-30 years so everything will be rusted or stuck with old grease. Just needs a teardown and rebuild. I have several various powerdrives, the main failure points is the rod from the handle to the transmission bends out of skew, or the grease in the transmission turns hard and gooey and needs to be replaced.
