Hey, Jimmy,

Wow. That's a lot of Electroluxes that you'd think someone would want to save!
What's the deal with the Kirby G3/G4 nozzles in the cardboard box? Are they pretty beat up? It's hard to tell from the picture.

Barry

"--you'd think someone would want to save!"---

---If so let me know. That is only 1/4 of Elux that will go.More tomorrow if weather is good.
"-G-3/G-4 nozzles-"They could have been easily cleaned and serviced.Any G-3,4 will GO.Also MANY accessories.
"-a few items-"I will try to group by brand and model and picture items before dumpster.Hoover brooms & Elites are going as soon as time allows.
This year any kept from 2 buildings must fit in 1.I will keep some favorites as a much smaller collection. Some with higher value/better condition will have reasonable price.

More rare parts and vacuums gone. I think this website will be done in a few years because there will be no vacuums left to collect because nobody has any parts to fix them anymore. I can't even find parts for vacuums from 10 years ago let alone 40. I've had to hire high school kids that do 3D printing to get a lot of parts made (they ask a lot of money).

Those same Electroluxes in the photos go for $50- $80 all day long on eBay for just the unit alone with nothing else - no hoses - no tools - nothing. The Renaissance units are especially pricey. There's at least $700 in stuff there that sells on eBay all the time.

"--willing to ship--"

Yes!UPS is further than the dumpster and closer than the scrap metal yard.$5.00 minimum to me if I have to ship along with possible charge depending on item wanted as well as any UPS charge.
"--$700 in stuff there that sells on EBay--"
If you know an experienced online seller that can handle 100s of items at a commission let me know as I can not find one and have no time for EBay with 2 buildings and a full time book store. You or any here would be welcome to have the previous load or future loads at a reasonable price which would allow you a nice profit or new items in your collection.More hopefully going today and every day as I remove first layers to see what else is here. One example-I just put 15 Compact/TriStar in one area. They will ALL go OUT of my building. To collectors or scrap metal yard???

Eureka

What is pt? should have most attachments as found and have more if missing.no manual found with., blue was from estate sale with several quality vacs with low mileage and red was from small clean house.price would be reasonable after checking condition.had a model number pic that disappeared.more Tues.

Les,

To add to what I said in Reply 6 there is much here and if anyone wants vacs or parts there are 2 ways to get them--
--If you are within driving distance as a collector from Maryland was last week call and make the easy 4 lane drive. You would find not only vintage vacs but it could be a nice road trip or family vacation.I am in a historic downtown with great antique shops and food as well as a car show and live music on Sat nights. You would get my full attention and pick and choose whatever your vehicle would hold.Or--
--Call as a collector from Mich has and ask for parts in pics or other and after I get a reasonable price (minimum $5) I can take to UPS where you would pay all shipping, insurance and packing for larger items.I do not have time and supplies for packing.UPS does.I would take vacs to them with parts such as handles removed and explain any special handling.
(If anyone goes to Elizabethtown I don't know what you would find as I am in Elizabethton.)

Wow! I’m sure there is a New In Box Eureka vacuum somewhere in Jimmy’s Treasure Chest! I would need to drive all the way down Interstate 81 from Ontario to pick it up. I guess it’s a two day drive with a sleepover in Harrisberg PA. Might be a worthwhile trip for me! I’d have to get moving fast as I know the cleanout needs to be completed soon.

--that my meaning was not understood.vacs here will go out of my building. The golden rotomatic Eureka with original hassock and attachments is too good for scrap or trash. It can wait for a reasonable offer or be part of my much smaller collections.Vacs here range from scrap, parts vacs, easy restoration, good and very good.If collectors have a need or want I am posting here as I hope I am "free to do".

Tom,

You,more than some, would understand that in addition to being a collector having a vac store includes getting trade ins from DTD dealers, customer trades, abandoned repairs, etc some of which sell quickly, some trashed, some for NLA parts and the more interesting kept. After several years in one location this adds up.I now find as I group brands together many good and complete vacs, many for scrap and many in between. Most are available to collectors. For me a smaller collection would include 50s,60s canisters,Electrolux XXX,G & others, various Eureka F&G styles,Hoovers of different decades and a few others. Many could be complete including original boxes and bags.If you know serious Kirby collectors there is MUCH from 50s,60s,70s that MUST GO soon to make room to sort others.
Chris,
I have been mostly working in the front of the upstairs. When I move to the middle there will be many Hoovers including Celebrity. The Electronic is in the back room of new store and not easily found.

Les,

Not the Dual Deluxe which was the first and ultimate Sunbeam.I have only had 2 with one turbine nozzle.Nozzle was sold and there may be one vac downstairs. They later had a good, better, best line up and added the different shapes and styles.Even though they added features such as cord winder, tool storage and magnet lids they were never as good as the Dual Deluxe.

Larry,

Should be 6 or 8 in back room behind the back room but with 6 1/2 day a week book store and part time vac sales, service, supplies for long time customers with little help I am having no time for vintage vacs.It looks more and more like I will have to run all this day to day till I die and then a discount crematorium and commercial dumpster.

Why "sadly"-

-that they could still scrub, buff, polish and shampoo collectors floors? Or that a Convertible could have a companion in a matching color? But it might end sadly if they go to the scrap metal yard. They have enough aluminum to make a lot of Pepsi cans!

Jimmy, if you're so worried about seeing some of these vintage cleaners you have collected over the years go to waste, why not have your friend help you with Ebay? You have some very nice machines there that I am sure you could fetch quite a bit of money for. Even some that are in fair shape, like that Kenmore KenKart Power Mate with the rusty wand and dirty hose, would still be able to be sold to a collector wanting to restore for a reasonable price.

That is what I meant.

Sadly, that they might end up in the dumpster you mention often.

I have every model there.  And, sadly (to some), I couldn't get to your place to see/shop the others.

"-EBay?--dumpster?-"

As my original EBay seller is dead I would welcome a competent, experienced seller but have found only those who think all you do is spend 2 minutes with a smart phone and all is done.I will be talking further with an EBay seller moving to this area next week and remaining hopeful.
I also welcome any collectors who can make the easy 4 lane drive. They would have my full attention which is otherwise focused on my 7 day a week book store.
For today I will be calling a scrap metal guy who can bring a truck to the back door and continue with metal Electrolux,Kirby and more.

Jimmy,

Another thought would simply be to create an online store without going through eBay. It would still take time to photo everything; and your items would still need to be stored, but you could take the photos yourself and have someone else (i.e. teenager) create and maintain your webpage, which you could advertise on Vacuumland, Facebook, and Craigslist — to name some.

Just a thought.

Paul,
Great idea with the right person which I have not found after 10 plus attempts.Do any here know anyone who would sell 100s of items at a commission?Just today I have been to bank, city hall, post office and have to change Generation fan for long time customer and fill 40 plus feet of new shelf space at my antique mall booth which is mostly used, rare, out of print books but will add small chrome/vintage kitchen appliances and cookbooks. No extra time!Vac store needs to be empty.Should I wait for collectors who don't come or the scrap metal guys who will come?
Les,
I have had very few straight suction vacs and no separate parts.Probably nothing now.I think all MH and parts are gone.

To repeat most vacs need to go out of my store. A scrap metal guy was here one hour after being called. Would any here even call within an hour of seeing what needs to go? I think Roy Clark once said - What a beautiful sight, smoke around the taillights, thank God and red truck they're gone.

Jimmy,

The vacuum cleaner on the left in reply #95 is either a model S-250 or S-250-A (I'm unsure of the differences).

In case you're interested, here's the link to a YouTube video of the Model S-246.

Also, here's the link to VL thread 38104 that contains the 1950 users manual of the Model S-246:

A great time with Jimmy in Elizabethton!

Dear all....I wanted to thank Jimmy for his hospitality and all the vacuums I got from him! There is a lot to see...so be ready to do some digging! For me, I got to find my favorite U7037 Hoover Commercial Uprights, Oreck canisters and old time Dirt Devil hand vacs. I wished I could have taken Kirby's, but hopefully next time. There are a lot of small head Kirby's as well as Kirby power drives, great Eureka F&G uprights (Easily 25 each) and tons more. If you have a chance, go down; it's a great time!

As much as I wanted to take a pilgrimage over there, being halfway across the country and working a stubborn job makes it very difficult.
By time I could go (like next year), everything would be gone. I would also feel compelled to fill up my truck without a place to put the stuff at home.

So Jimmy, since you mentioned you would ship, here is my vac parts Christmas list for projects I have that need completion:

All need to be as best quality as you may have (except for the old grey cloth bag).
The G5 stuff needs to be able to be cleaned up (I will do) and look almost new.

Let me know what you have and I will make it worth your time to look through your stock. I have liquidated a lot of vac parts and I know how time consuming it is.
Also I am not in a hurry, so take your time. We can talk later when you have a list of questions. I am willing to fill up a regular Kirby box.
Thank you...

G5 original hose (burgundy color ends)

G5 original cord (burgundy color)

G5 original nozzle bumper (burgundy color) (only if very good)

G5 zip brush (In box preferably) (burgundy color)

G5 turbo sander (In box preferably) (burgundy color)

G5 hard floor plate (this clips onto big floor nozzle, not G5 specific)

G5 owners manual book (service manual also if available)

G5 nozzle belt lifter decal (only if new)

Any old grey Kirby cloth bag with hanger top for 514 ('good usable' condition)

Grey or red square wide body emtor bottom for 514, good usable condition.

Classic III red bag ring (bag guard) (2)

Tradition blue emtor and bag assembly
Tradition blue cord

Heritage emtor and bag assy
Heritage II mini emtor and bag assy

505 style attachment set with box (less hose & couplers, which I have)

any NEW OEM motor bearings for new or old Kirbys?

Thank you!!

Reply 106 serial number and bags, top to bottom --1940A,1489A,2087A, same --yes, no, no, yes torn at bottom. There is much literature in a box somewhere. Most of these should be easy to service/repair under the layer of dust. Other Eurekas were not ready for their close up.

With the recent discussion of Eurekas on this thread, I was wondering if you would have attachment sets for my old Eurekas. I have a 260, a G-2, and (I think) a model 10. Also a nozzle latch for the 10. The one on it is broken and I tried to replace it with a latch from a 505-515 Kirby but it didn't fit. Here are pictures of them. Thanks,

Kenmore Ken Karts

I have 5 of these in my collection. All of mine are complete with original attachments & they all run like a top. I was saddened to see all of those ones from A1 going for scrap. Could have used 2-3 of those to cannibalize for spare parts before they went to scrap. the armatures in these excepting the 2 1959-60 wide track at the extreme right never become shorted because Birtman Electric used military grade varnish on the windings. Thans Rugsucker for taking those 5 pictures

Is donating working machines an option?

I can’t help but see you are throwing away machines. Not sure if you have a Goodwill or Salvation Army or other thrift stores nearby. Often they will take working items even if they are old. I never see vacuums sitting around in thrift shops too long…they usually sell and might be an alternative option to dispose of some of this stuff. I get it though… it really is overwhelming. I was “given plenty three Electrolux canisters I didn’t want and a tub of parts and attachments I didn’t even want when I bought one Elux upright from a local collector. I finally was able to pass the items on to other collectors for the cost of shipping only but had to deal with getting boxes, packing paper, etc and then packing and shipping took some time. Hence I’m limiting myself and constantly downsizing to what I really want and will enjoy.

Well, hopefully you can donate some that work and make it an easy way to dispose of them.

You do realize he has 10s of thousands of vacs. He could donate half the state with vacuums and still have a metric @$$ ton.
