Ge Uprights

I was looking through australias consumer magazine for 1978 this morning the GE U4 in US was the UV40 in OZ and was still on sale in november 78. from what i figure GE vacuums still held their name until 1986. Such a good reputation for reliability here. The GE swiveltop left our shelves in 1986. A hugely popular vacuum. In 1978 the GE UV40 cost $98.00 plus $17.50 for the accessories. Hoover Convertible was $107.50 plus $22.50 for the kit Think hoover and electrolux held the majority between the two but i know of more having a GE vacuum in the 70's than the others. will post the consumer magazine report in the next few days for anyone who is interested . cheers mike | ||

According to the website linked below, the American GE company sold its floor care division in 1974. All GE vacuums from then on were branded as Premier. Not sure if this affected vacs made north of the border at Canadian General Electric…I think we in Canada still saw CGE vacs in stores for quite a bit longer…at least until the 1980’s.
