Hi guys. I have a beautiful sand-and-wine color Electrolux Special Edition from 1989. It's a beautiful machine, an automatic (2100) complete and in like new condition with a power nozzle that was probably optional (?). I read online that they were produced to be sold at fairs, etc, rather than at Electrolux stores. Does anyone know how much they cost? I know a non-automatic was also available. I'm wondering how much you saved by buying one over one in a store. Thanks.

Hey Michael,

Electrolux Corporation's Special Edition line was produced from c.1986 to c.1992 and included several different floor & surface cleaners. John Anderson, a longtime sales rep. posted the attached brochure on another thread some time ago; although it shows only the 'deluxe' automatic "canister" (model 2100) and not the 'budget' non-automatic model 1623.

While Electrolux Corp. in that era did not typically advertise or have fixed pricing (using a range instead) I did also manage to find a rare 1989 ad for your 2100 SE "canister" (which is actually a 'tank' due to the vertically mounted position of the motor). While other dealers' regular price & sales prices may have been different, at least you have a ballpark figure.

I'm guessing that your power nozzle is a model 6B rather than the 7B as was the custom. Their baseplates differed somewhat in their air channels and maybe other features. I'm unsure what would make one superior to another, but both models were factory-paired with other 1623/2100 tanks as well, such as the Regency Series.

Anyway, congratulations on your purchase and Happy Electroluxing with your vintage cleaner! If you can, please post some photos of it.

Thank you Paul

I appreciate the information. My Special Edition looks exactly like the one pictured in the brochure in your reply. It's perfect right down to the braided hose. I found a non-automatic one with a vinyl hose, so I bought it, kept the hose, and sent it along with a different hose. I much prefer the vinyl hoses to the bulky, short braided ones.

Here’s a previous thread. When I asked about that model being sold at Service Merchandise.

I remember

when Costco had just one model Electrolux canister for sale in the mid 80's and I heard that it wasn't really manufactured by Electrolux, but someone else. The price was 495.00. It was two tone blue as I recall. I wasn't collecting back then so I didn't really check out the variables. I just asked how they got the price so low? The person I talked with said that they licensed out their name and regretted it later because these were so awful, especially the motors in them. I didn't even look for a model number, couldn't believe this had happened.

I had one the neighbors had given me in that color. They had purchased it at Sam's. I didn't care for it compared to the metal units and in the short time I had it two motors burned up.

I like the colors of your model too! I believe yours is a real Elux. So I hope you enjoy it. I didn't mean to be so negative with my last response. The Costco model was so obviously a knock off even a newbie as I was could spot it ten ft. away. Nice looking power nozzle too. Electroluxes are a good investment, they go the distance for sure.
