Others with more knowledge will chime in, but the vault was long gone by the time you were born. Hoover kept the first serial number sweeper on every model new in the "Vault" at the factory (or was it at headquarters?). When TTI purchased them most machines ended up destined for the scrapper. A few dedicated collectors saved what they could, and some are still in private collections.

At a VCCC convention, the late Michael Hays persuaded the Hoover officials to let the club into the vault, there are pictures in a old newsletter, |

Such a shame that TTI decided to scrap the Hoover Vault and forget Hoover's history like that. The brand just hasn't been the same since TTI bought them. :(
On another note though: Canisterman - formerly Kenkart here - Hans Craig, welcome back to Vacuumland! We are all blessed to have a collector with your knowledge back on the forum. And one of the nicest vacuum collectors I have ever talked to. |
