I know many people like to know what the rarest model of a brand of vacuum made is. I'm curious about the other direction--what are the most common models of Eureka upright in these series in your region?

200
600
1400
1900
2000

Great question although tough to nail down one model as there was such a smattering of them. I'm going to wait a month or so and do some online observations of area resale listings then let you know. My interest in vintage electric floor & surface care cleaners was limited until 10 years ago when I joined Vacuumland after searching for Electrolux parts. For a long time that was the only brand that had my interest; followed later by Kirby and Hoover. Eureka entered the picture only in 2022 when I obtained a curbside model 1458-D.

Definitely the 1400 series of Dial-a-Nap uprights. These budget cleaners were offered in so many variations of design over at least 2 decades that I would bet that this is the model series most prevalent on EBay and in thrift stores. And they are actually pretty decent deep carpet cleaners….

The only other Eureka upright that would be most prevalent is the red Sanitaire Dial-a-Nap commercial upright with the chrome hood and handle.

Brian,

Yes, and there was one model (1401, I think) that used the older "Eureka" script logo which, I believe, dated back to the 1950s, long before the "Electric E" graphic had been used.

Good info. I thought Nick was inquiring about specific models rather than the series.

Was the 1401 the retro one made in the '80s or '90s? That would be a great blend of '50s styling and contemporary features.

Paul,

The 1401 was from around 1975.

I was asking about specific models, but I thought the 1400 series was abundant

Thanks, Ben. The one I was thinking of was the model 1950-A RetroVac made circa 2005.

Theory

I think Eureka made annual changes to its models as signified by the letter type.

I also surmise that a 'T' after a letter indicated that tools were included; I'm unsure what an 'M' or 'S' (on some) meant.

If that's true, then one could determine the most common models; albeit not by region. In the sampling below, the 1406 would have had the most sales in its 8-year run than the others

1401A/B/D; 1402A/D; 1403A; 1404A/B; 1405A; 1406A/B/D/E/G/H/J/K; 1407B/D; 1408A; 1409A/B; 1410A/D

This was K-mart's exclusive line.

Paul--that's a good theory. I know the discount stores in Seattle sold some models with the letter prefix "WT". I thought it was because one of the bigger sellers was White Front. With Tools makes much more sense
