Definitely the 1400 series of Dial-a-Nap uprights. These budget cleaners were offered in so many variations of design over at least 2 decades that I would bet that this is the model series most prevalent on EBay and in thrift stores. And they are actually pretty decent deep carpet cleaners….
The only other Eureka upright that would be most prevalent is the red Sanitaire Dial-a-Nap commercial upright with the chrome hood and handle. | ||

Good info. I thought Nick was inquiring about specific models rather than the series. Was the 1401 the retro one made in the '80s or '90s? That would be a great blend of '50s styling and contemporary features. | ||

Paul--that's a good theory. I know the discount stores in Seattle sold some models with the letter prefix "WT". I thought it was because one of the bigger sellers was White Front. With Tools makes much more sense
I think Eureka made annual changes to its models as signified by the letter type. I also surmise that a 'T' after a letter indicated that tools were included; I'm unsure what an 'M' or 'S' (on some) meant. If that's true, then one could determine the most common models; albeit not by region. In the sampling below, the 1406 would have had the most sales in its 8-year run than the others 1401A/B/D; 1402A/D; 1403A; 1404A/B; 1405A; 1406A/B/D/E/G/H/J/K; 1407B/D; 1408A; 1409A/B; 1410A/D | ||
