The Hoover Hygienisac was meant to be emptied out and reused a number of times, but you were instructed to dispose of it and replace it with a new paper bag at intervals. Hoover sold their replacement bags in cardboard boxes and sometimes in paper bags themselves. Just because you could reuse a bag doesn't mean you never have to replace it.

Don't forget the Electrolux C-A, which was introduced in 1961, or 62. It used a large version of the disposable bags for the model G. These bags fit inside the cloth bag.
The C-A was the only wet/dry Electrolux. C-A stood for 'Commercial Automatic. | ||

re-usable and disposable aren't exactky the same According the the actual Hoover archives/history/documents, the 'Hygienesac', 1st paper bag, was in 1929. It was re-introduced in 1940 on the model 60 and continued on through the early 1950s on models 61,62.
The truly disposable bag was for a tank cleaner, model 41, produced in 1950, 3 years before model 63 in 1953. We all know that Convertible, model 65, used the type C bag.

Good points, Jo. I used the inflation calculator and discovered that 40˘ in 1950 would be $4.86 in 2022 - a 1114.3% increase in 72 years. | ||

Gimbel's 1961 Disposable Bags ad Interestingly, the listing Electrolux bags includes models F and Auto F! It probably seemed to follow suit of the E and Auto E. June 1961 prices inflated to December 2022: $3.98 - $39.64 $2.98 - $29.68

Great timeline of when bags were introduced and by which companies on their products. Can I make a suggestion? Nowhere have I seen yet as to what companies started introducing HEPA Cloth bags, and in what years. I think that would be especially important to keep track of, because those bags practically revolutionized bagged vacuums. And in my opinion, kept bagged vacuums from going obsolete. Just a thought.

Would be great to include some of the latest innovations in dust bags: bags for the cordless Oreck stick vac (pods), bags for the new Henry cordless stick vac, and even bags for the new Samsung stick vac cleaning station where the charging stand doubles as a dust bin cleaning device. | ||
