Went out and saw Bob today.
Someone gave him a Hoover and he asked if I wanted it.
He just gave it to me.

Pic 1 is the Hoover closed before cleaning
Pic 2 is the Hoover open before cleaning
Pic 3 is after I cleaned a little

Nice gift,

I found this one in Mint Green. Still have it. Did the usual clean up even though it was in great shape. I found it a Goodwill years ago. I have yet to use it.
The plan is to list it locally on Craigslist. I loathe packing and shipping.

your not gonna like what im about to say, but youre likely stuck with it. you can't GIVE portables and slimlines away. theyre not very popular cleaners. bob webb got several portables to flip on ebay a few years back and couldnt sell them after several price cuts at $15 each.

Nice looking Portable!
I have a soft spot for them, because a gold colored version was the first vacuum I remember from childhood.
I picked up a pretty clean turquoisey one at the local Salvation Army store a few years ago. I think it was $10.
It's not a daily driver, but I do bring it out every once in a while.
Years ago, I was actually trying to get an orange one that my in-laws were no longer using, but I guess they threw it away rather than let me have it.

I have a 'few' in addition to Slimlines.  I really like them.  And, you're really surprised, right?

Nice find! I like the colors they come in and the mechanical concept of what Hoover were doing with it, but never quite added one to my collection yet. I went for a Constellation before I went for one of these if that says anything. lol

I want one! Every time I've tried to look on eBay, Craigslist, OfferUp, etc I haven't had any luck finding one or they are selling for ridiculous prices!

Did any of the US models have a cord winder?

Hey Will,

Happy New Year! My history with these is, I have had a light blue and an orange one like in this thread. Both were Goodwill purchases and I sold them locally on Craigslist with $100 profits.

But I was really attracted to the mint green one long enough to refurbish and store it.

With my goal of downsizing, it may be one to go.

Miracles never cease to happen.
I will say this took place several years ago.

Hoover

-cord winder?-Yes.After the early models many of the deluxe versions had cord winders. Some later deluxe models had large rear wheels as carpet became deeper.
Many 60s vacs including Sunbeam,Eureka and Singer had different storage ideas for tools and hose but the Portable was the best of them. The last were Cleaning Centers as above. The Portable was introduced when advertising matchbooks were common and one featured the Portable with pictures of attachments shown when matchbook cover was opened. The Slimline allowed Hoover to add a lower price vac and use same base, motor, bag, etc.
I still have a few of these upstairs at the old shop that need to go out in the spring.
