So I treated myself on my birthday and snatched this up for a steal! $150 dollars and it looks barely used, Did have a nice clog in the system not sure if that’s why they put it up for sale but I was hoping someone could tell me more about them as I’m not super familiar with Miele.

These were excellent vacuums in my opinion. Quiet, powerful, sealed system, built very tough and holds up well, I really like the swivel neck feature, and it's made in Germany so you have a German engineered product:) You have found yourself a find my friend! I wished these were still being made today. What's the serial number on your machine?

I was happy to see when I picked it up it had the newer switches, I remember the vacuum store where I lived was replacing all the handles he could under warranty and he kept some of the old style handles and switches for parts and spares. So far I absolutely love it I’m thinking it’s going to be my new daily driver as over all it grooms/cleans the carpets nicely and it’s overall a very nice and convenient machine to use!

Nice find there, certainly looks to be in good condition.
Be careful with the hose on these Miele uprights. Another user on here had a HUGE PROBLEM with the hoses becoming deformed and misshaped over time - to the point he had Miele replace THREE HOSES that all did the same thing before getting fed up to the point he insisted on a Miele canister as a replacement. The bag holder and it's design is also a weak point on these - very easy for the bag collar to not seal properly to the tube and dirt to get around the bag instead of going in. As mentioned above, these are heavy uprights to push, about the same as a Kirby, would much rather take that over this Miele if I was buying new. When it comes time to replace your HEPA filter, give these filters a try. Bought a pack myself to use in my Miele S401i, and these are identical in quality to the genuine Miele SF HA30 filter. I wouldn't replace that HEPA Filter quite yet. Assuming the seller replaced it on a yearly basis, it's likely 1 year old or less. Those Miele HEPA Filters can go at least 2 years, sometimes 3, before they need replacement. Most people don't realize the cloth bags are capturing the fine dust for the most part, only carbon dust and ultra fine particles you can't see is what makes it to the filter.
If you want to replace the HEPA Filter because it's smelly, try spraying it with Febreze a couple times and let it dry in between sprays. That ought to rid the filter of the odours. Another thing you could try is putting baking soda on the underside of the filter and let it sit for a few days on a sunny window ledge. Then take it outside with a vacuum with a blower and gently blow out the baking soda. It along with the sun should absorb any odours and help to renew the filter a bit. Also, beware that the brushroll is VERY PRICY when it wears down and needs replacement - at least $100. So it might not hurt to find a nice used one to keep as a spare. Good luck with your Miele, hopefully you get many years of service from it. |
