Ok, here's a question for the Hoover experts. I was looking at a gold Hoover Convertible on Craigslist, and I need a bit of help identifying it. Its appearance is as follows:

White Metal Base (older style)
Gold Motor Hood
Gold Handel
Gold Bag (Not sure its original)

Basicly, it looks like the gold Convertible you see in the cleaning competition photos, but with the motor hood and base colors switched, and a different bag.

Is this something I should buy? It is priced fairly well, and looks to be in good shape.

BZZZZZZTTT

Incorrect...
The 50th anniversary Golden model 65 has a gold metallic base and white hood.
Check the convention photos again, both Fred S and Chad brought theirs, as well as the one in the HHC.
Fred's is all original too.

Anything else is a fake

Hmmm... So, I wonder what it is then? I thought it must be something different, as it obviously is, but I feel I need to check.

I avoided pics for a reason, but I'll post some anyway. Trick of the lights? Possibly yellow, not gold? Whats with the handle? You tell me.

By gold, do you mean more of a yellow? If it has a light it might be a 564 or a 704? if one of those then BUY it! no headlight, then well I don't know buy it anyway. If you don't like it then I am sure someone from this club will but it from you. lol

Ooooopppppssss. I thought it had a headlight. Now that I look a bit closer, I think I'm wrong about that. Still, I'd like to know what it is.

That looks like a model 66 - in Garland Green.

Bag isn't original.

Green... interesting. I guess my eyes must be getting bad when I can't tell green from gold, but its quite possible, and it starts to looks green when I look really hard.

Now did the 66 have a painted handle that matched the hood? I'm no expert about these at all. With Hoovers made after 1940 I'm really clueless regarding details and model numbers and such.

Anyway, I emailed the seller, so hopefully I'll know for sure in a while.

I concour...

with Fred.
That looks like a 66 to me, photographed in bad light.

With regards to painted handles, models 65-68 had color painted handles to match the hood/bag.

Model 69 was the first deluxe Convertible to have the white painted handle.
