Hi all. I bought this Electrolux E-2000 today, and although it seems to work fine, it has an interesting issue. The 'Protection' light is on all the time, but despite this, the vacuum turns on as normal.

Anyone ever see this before? Did the thermal switch perhaps fail, and someone bypassed it completely?

Could be a bad capacitor or something on the circuit board. It's at the age now of electronics failure. If that resistor failed it would cut the circuit and the vacuum thinks there is a motor problem.

Would need to go over the circuit board with a multimeter and check for bad diodes and figure out which one is the one that controls the temperature alarm.

Congrats on your purchase! The E-2000 (E for Electronic) tank vacuum was introduced 40 years ago with the non-automatic E-Special tank vacuum and was produced with that model name and color scheme through 1985. Aerus has continued making it with different successive colors and model names along with other changes or upgrades and power nozzles up to the present time. The current rendition has a tool tray on top and is named the Lux Legacy model C153E with the model N137Z power nozzle. So replacement parts are readily available.

Doug Smith, a Canadian collector, has a website featuring his vast collection -smithcollection@altervista.com. He would be a good resource along with Aerus dealers and vac shops.

It's definitely worth repairing. Regards.

There is really not a circuit board in the older luxes. It’s more mechanical. It’s probably a faulty thermal cut out near the motor. I wouldn’t worry about it if it’s operating fine then continue to use it.

Kenny's advice is on the button - no circuit board in these models, and just continue to use as is. Shouldn't harm the vacuum one bit.

Paul = Just a slight correction, the E2000 was produced from 1982 to 1984, not 1985. It was discontinued when the 2100 was introduced in Canada in 1984.

Kirbylux77,

I based my information on Doug Smith's Electrolux Canada history. You're right that the Hi-Tech 2100 made its USA debut in January 1985. I had thought that its Canadian debut was a bit later, but I yield to your knowledge. Thanks for the clarification.

It sounds more like someone has wired it wrong. If you take a look at the diagram here either the wires on bulb C have been reversed (either at the bulb or on the motor housing) or the center (common) wire between the bulbs has been disconnected entirely.

And Kirbylux - the 2100 didn't come out till 1985. I was working for Electrolux at the time and sold them. I also have E2000s in my collection dated 1985.

Just to make that a bit clearer the 2100 was introduced in Canada in April of 1985 for the April Drive month (Electrolux did two big drive months a year - April and October. Normally that was when new models were introduced to boost sales)

Wow amazing they did all that without some sort of circuit board, entirely mechanical. I never would have guessed. Even the Hoover Dimension which came out roughly the same time had a circuit board and stuff in it.

From what I understand and have heard, we got the Electrolux 2100 in Ontario as early as October, 1984. Have seen a couple contracts so far for sales dated to 1984 for 2100's sold at branch offices. Could be that Western Canada got them later for some reason. The E2000 was most definitely gone here in Ontario by then.

Thanks for the information, Doug. I think the January 1985 is when Electrolux Canada & Electrolux Corporation merged - is that correct? Anyway, I have that time frame in my recollection.

Question ... did Canadian literature refer to the new cleaner as 'Hi-Tech 2100' like the USA's? It seems that it was dropped here for the taupe-colored version.

Hi Paul.

I never heard it referred to as Hi-Tech till I saw postings on here.

Doug

Kirbylux - Ontario often got stuff the rest of the country didnt even see. As the factory was in Toronto / Mississauga branches were often used to test out the market. For example, in the west we only got the Grand Marquis and the Model 90 while Ontario also had an early version of the Diplomat (which we didnt see for another year). Also Ontario got the US Ultralux and Ultralux Classic which we never saw at all out west.
