...In no particular order:
-Kirby Heritage 1HD. I put a lot of time and effort into renovating this one, including converting it from a dump bag to a Heritage 2 filter bag setup with a brand new orange outer bag, courtesy of a fellow VL member. -Electrolux Diamond J. I'm a big fan of Electrolux canisters, so it's hard to pick just one out of the five that I own, but this one is often my go-to when I want a canister. -Electrolux Genesis LXe. Like the Electrolux canisters, I really love these twin-motor uprights and picking just one comes down to splitting proverbial hairs. Still, this is one one of my all around favorites, combining the best of both the canister and upright worlds. -Kirby G7 Diamond Edition. This is another one that I put considerable effort into cleaning up and making right. The high/low switch is a nice addition that sets it apart from my other G series machines. -Eureka ESP model 2091. It's really almost a toss-up between this one and my Sanitaire S645, but the two speed settings give the Eureka the edge. It's just a simple, no-frills, powerful cleaner. |

It's a lovely Carolina autumn afternoon, so I decided to drag these machines that I mentioned in Reply #6 out to the deck for a photo shoot. I guess it's okay that most, if not all, of them would be betterqualified for the 'Vintage' section than the 'Contemporary' section. I just like the older machines better.
One detail I remembered about the Genesis is that it originally had the cord coming out of the end of the handle, which was subject to a safety recall. The handle/cord assembly the nearby Aerus dealer installed was the wrong color and the rocker switch didn't work right. Turning it on for suction only required first turning on both suction and brushroll, then backing up to suction only, so when I picked up an Epic SR3500 for $3 at Goodwill a couple of years ago. It has a minor issue where sometimes you need to rap lightly on the bag door to get it to run, so I subsequently did a handle swap to solve both the aesthetic and functional issues of the Genesis. The Epic is now in storage as a parts machine. Also, I photographed the Diamond J with the PN5 power nozzle that came with it, although I typically use it with a PN4, which seems better suited for the close quarters inside my house. Enjoy! |
