I have a newer "Black Onyx" Rainbow, but sometimes I just really like using my D4. Maybe it's because I put a substantial amount of work into rebuilding it, but it just is a very pleasant machine to use. Just for the record I have a D3, a D4, an E4, and I used to have a 1st general E series as well.

The only one I have is a trash picked D4 SE PE like your picture and I have yet to try it yet. My grandma has a D3, but I never vacuumed with it.

Does a Rexair Series A count, since it's pre Rainbow. How about Rexair B or C?

For me must be the first or third gen E series (first gold single speed model & blue dual speed model).

D series are also cool

My favourite is the model D. I love the 'Chromedome' and 'R2D2 nicknames. The vacuum just looks cool! When I was in my teens, 4 of my mom's friends had them. I got one on Ebay about 13 years ago. It is in like new condition....the plastic handle top is not cracked as so many are nor is any plastic broken on the dolly. Also there are no dents in the chrome top. I do have the original hose but it is quite stiff and difficult to use so I purchased the replacement shown in the pics. The original dusting brush did not come with it so I just purchased one from the local vac shop which I think came with the SE model? It also has the original 'Homes & Garden' tag. I remember seeing the advertising pic of the canister only many times in that magazine.

Gary

I love all my Rainbows. I’ve been collecting vacuum cleaners for decades and it has taken me all of them to be able to have my collection. The only model I do not have is the SRX. And I don’t want one.
