I feel Dirt Devil no longer sells products that are worthwhile. Can there be a way to save the brand from irrelevency? | ||

TTI's original plan was to scrap Dirt Devil along with Royal as they were focusing on Hoover and Oreck. But it seems as they decided to stick with Dirt Devil as their entry brand, Hoover as their deluxe brand, and Oreck as their premium brand. However, Dirt Devil is still licensing with HP Products to sell and manufacture central vacs. They're even better than Hoover's central vacs that they've sold in the past. I'm pretty sure as long as the brand keeps on selling well, I don't think the Dirt Devil brand would go away anytime soon.

Dirt Devil was always intended for the lower class and middle class market where they are happily situated and do very well. They do their best to make vacuums hovering around the $50 price point. 20-30 years ago they tried to keep them around $30 against the bottom end models from rival brands being $80 and up. When they started making more high end vacuums that cost upwards of $100 these past 5-8 years they shot themselves in the foot.

I think Dirt Devil was one of those cases where the budget line eventually overshadowed the parent, Royal, and has now outlived it, similar to the way Pontiac overshadowed and outlived its parent brand, Oakland. I've had a couple of Dirt Devils over the years, and they were really unimpressive machines. From what I've seen, it's only gotten worse since the TTI takeover. Even if the Dirt Devil brand goes away, we can count on cheap, plasticrap vacs always being with us—kind of like a fungus.
