I'll take many!

This is my 14th year of going there. It's become a very familiar place to me now.
I'll stay with Tom ,Heather, and Glen. I'll visit Jane, visit the buildings. I might even get to see Ann Haines. She ran the historical center for years... a sweet lady.

That was one of our best conventions! The tour of the factory and museum was a highlight for me. I believe it was for the 100th anniversary.

Tom and Heather were such gracious hosts that year. Tom's collection was a thrill in and of itself. I loved the Hoover washing machines.

I believe it may have been one of our highest attended conventions. If memory serves me we also went to the Tri-Star plant as well. I think we have may have visited Kirby as well.

I just remember being exhausted when I got home.

It was my first conventnion.

gottahaveahoove's profile picture

I've returned every years since, at least once a year. It's great to be there where it all started.  I'm very welcomed in that town. Of course, I see a lot of my friends when I visit.  I usually bring some baked things from my home and have recently, upon request, made the infamous  iced tea from the Pittston Hospital.

I'll be leaving on Thursday, August 4.

Shortly after I arrive there, everything becomes familiar again.

I'm bringing a few machines (vintage)  for a play date and some a spa date.  And, I have a special surprise for Tom.

I'm sensing a bit of hostility. Do we know each other?  Have we ever had words b/w us? I'm sorry if my posts annoy you.  You may always feel free to email me or call and we can talk.

Should I make my posts longer?  3 lines.

Damien,

Dick Pike died 3 days ago.  His funeral will be on Monday.

I'm proud to have been in his home numerous times.  I'm grateful to have known both him and his wife, Joellen.

Well, that's good to hear.

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
I was only there once in the winter.
We went to the Bag Plant 2 just before it closed. Then, we went to the Mc Kinley Museum, then to The Hoover Historical Center to a fab Christmas party and horse drawn sleighride around the property.

So, yes, some call it a pilgrimage. Others, well, it really matters not, so, who cares?
Silly, isn't it? Ridiculous, actually.
But I go regularly, because I'm welcome there.
I hope to see Ann Haines, too. Maybe I'll bring her some kitchen treats, too.

He's going to Dick Pike's wake on Sunday.

I believe Dick's son, Tom will remain in the home. (beautiful house)... been there numerous times.

I'll treasure all of the things I got there on various visits.

No doubt, we'll stop at the museum while I'm there.
Let the letter brigade begin.

I got all of the things needed to prepare the things I take to N. Canton.
I usually make a large amount of home made spaghetti sauce, meatballs and sausage.

I also bake banana nut breads, Irish sodabreads, and some cookies. Once there, I'll whip up a few pitchers of iced tea (yep).
I'm bringing a few vacuums for a general overhaul, as well as a special 'vintage' surprise for Tom.
A few days....................

Well, I made it home last night.

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
There were storms and a lot of roadwork. It took longer than usual.
But.............
It was a great trip. I'll post more pics soon.
The kitties were very happy when I returned.
I unpacked the car. I only took 3 machines home: a Dial A Matic for Joe Kassock, a beautiful cylinder (tank), the Concept 2 'electronic'. It was there for a little going over. I also got a great coat rack that was from The Hoover Company.
Special thanks to Tom and Heather. Also, thanks to Will. had a great time.

You'll see the parachute. If you made cloth bags...your new 'wartime' job was making parachutes. Fuses, helmets, etc were all made there.

As far as that other vacuum at the store

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
WE took a pic of that Airway and that other cleaner. I have no idea what it was. I really had no interest in it. We were in so many places that day, I couldn't tell you where it was . There was a Hoover heater there. It looks like it's possible that someone actually went to that store after us, as, it looks like that heater is in a pic.
Unless a collector rushes back to that store, I doubt it will fly out of there.

One flea market had Orecks and Sharks. "Buy one, get one free'. We passed.

The Historical Center is the museum

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
which documents everything. Every aspect is covered there, in one way or another.
The "Hoover District" is a MASSIVE series of buildings. The "International Building" is being re-purposed..not struggling like a mean-spirited view might have it.
But, no need to pay attention to nasty remarks, if there are any.
I'll continue to visit, and post. Some share an interest in all of it.
Some, well... doesn't really matter.

In pic 5, I see a unique white hard bodied upright that looks like it may have come from the UK. Is that a British 240v Hoover?

That Richmond is something else. I know you're a Hoover purist but I would've JUMPED at that. Even that Twin-motors AirWay. Those are EXTREMELY rare. I'm sure there's some way to fabricate a new knuckle coupler for the motor driven brush. It was probably some type of pot metal. Personally, I appreciate the AirWay uprights much more than the canisters, but I know everyone's tastes are different.

Yes, I believe that British

Hoover may have belonged, at one time, to the late, great Dick Pike. When I speak with Tom again (this week), I'll get the particulars.

Looks like you all had a great time, and it was nice of you to share it with all of us here, especially the pics! I haven't been to the museum or Tom's house in several years but hope to get up that way again some time. Thanks again,
Jeff

I still have more pics to share. To think... it was a week ago that I was there!
Thanks to so many for your kindness. I've gotten many notes, messages, etc.
I'm glad some of you appreciate all of it. There are others, well.... what can you say? There's no excuse for bad taste. or bad manners.

More celebrating Hoovers and The year of the staircase!

Last night, I spoke with Tom (Anderson). He told me that that white Hoover WAS made in Cambuslang, Scotland. It was gifted to Joe Cutinella, whom he believes was a vice president. It was a retirement present in 1986..... The "Sovereign".I knew he'd have the correct info.

Hershel, It I knew someone really wanted that

gottahaveahoove's profile picture

other vacuum................

But, might have had trouble putting it in Tom's car !! :)

We had no idea we'd see that.  That's the thing about thrifting:  You NEVER know what you're gonna see.  How many times did we find a 'must have' item?

I was able to get 2 NIB Hoovers that day, (  dirt cheap).  THAT was fun.

Thanks for the pictures, John!
I apologize for being out of the loop, but I have to ask.
What's the deal with the Star Trek uniform? Is there a Hoover tie-in somewhere?

Barry

Sorry I didn't a closeup of that.  It's on display in the back hallway leading to the back 'staircase'.

When they were closing the bag plant

I suggested they have all the workers sign the last bag. They did and here it is in the museum.
