I have the green royal, and it is a battle with Adam’s red royal.

Adam trying out the new Ultra Kleen from Air-Way. The proper way to use a canister is with the hose wrapped around your waist. As shown in virtually every instruction manual of every canister vacuum cleaner from the 1950s.

The mini meats are always fun. Not as much fun as the convention in September.

We had a little barbecue and beer to celebrate.

John Gregory asked me years ago why I would use real China to serve a bunch of guys at a mini meet. He told me my dishwasher would thank me if I just used good quality paper plates. After the meal, with a wave of your hand, the dishes are done.

The 1910 Hoover Senior. We got it to run (it's DC not AC) with a converter Owen Perkins made for it. So much fun to finally hear it running properly after all these many decades.

The food was divine. Everybody chipped in. Bill Kirby made his world famous coleslaw. And he brought me a few presents from Scranton Pennsylvania.

It couldn’t be a Fourth of July barbecue without grilled hotdogs. The buns were from the bakery and had to be sliced with a bread knife. So good.

My good friend and my best man at my wedding, Bob Humphries, made his famous potato recipe. Similar to “funeral potatoes“ with a few exceptions like substituting crushed cornflakes for crushed potato chips. You know what they say, “a moment on the lips“? We tried to take that into consideration.

Tom ! your Hoover senior is a beast !! this huge motor and this big copper plate 😮 I would love to see it working ! I corrected the DC with a bridge rectifier to run a very old GE electric fan (DC motors are extremely rare)

We are definitely going to run this old beast at the convention, the third weekend in September. This year, the convention is going to be filmed and put on YouTube for everyone to enjoy. The cleaning contest this year is “power nozzle canisters“ so that will be wonderful. And as always, we will have T-shirts so that everyone who comes will be able to remember it every time they wear their shirt.

I made this wonderful pasta salad because it’s cold, delicious, and it goes with barbecue perfectly. The dressing for the Pasta salad is a southern recipe and you have to cook it first. I am so thankful to have so many friends in the vacuum collecting community who are also great cooks. The recipe for this dressing came from my friend Hans Craig in North Carolina.

Tom,

I can't wait to see that Hoover Senior! Now that is a rare piece of Hoover history. Does anybody else even have one? I remember seeing yours but we could not run it due to the DC power issue. I'm so glad Owen has you all fixed up now.

Only about three months to wait..............

Everything is coming together for the Convention in September, 16 and 17. You won't have to be sure to send in your dues, because there aren't any. Nor is there a 'convention fee'. If 50 people attended and I charged $90 a head, I would make $4,500. Now that would be a convention with no expenses spared. I promise the chairs won't sink into the ground outside because we eat inside in the air conditioning. I don't plan on anyone having to be in the garage in the heat to run vacuums. The best part is the food. Everyone makes, buys, or brings something. People look forward to "Bill's slaw" or Rob Shore's Marinara. Luke and Warren always bring something tasty. People who are local (even 4 hours away) bring a crockpot full of some homemade goodness. It's just like the old conventions, like the one where you and I met. This upcoming convention will have all the 'old timers' and just think, 2 former VCCC Presidents to guide everyone through the Cleaning Contest. The theme this year is Power Nozzle Canisters. There's $50 and a brand new in the box Electrolux as the prize this year.

Tom,

just when do you plan on acting like an adult. The garage was at my house it was not that hot and everyone seemed to have fun and since you where nowhere near Pennsylvania it really is none of your business, so why not put on your big boy pants and GROW UP, I'm not someone you want to jerk around with.
Any comments feel free to email me in private.
Joe

Enjoy your Hoover Concept Electronic I gave you. Of course, if you don't want a reminder of my gift to someone I was told would appreciate it, you can always give it back to Cassidy. She’s the only reason you have it in the first place.

Oh hell, don’t get me involved! Part of why I don’t post on here, associate with anyone or collect anymore is because of the shit that happens here. I’m in a different direction in life and would prefer to keep moving forward.

Front of the tee-shirt for this year’s convention. Thank you Michael Balda. Hard to believe that it has been 16 years ago since I held my first convention on my own. No “club”. This will be our 16th anniversary, and the best convention yet.

Booked my room today at the Holiday Inn Rolla using points through a credit card. I'm arriving on Thursday so I can be there all day Friday and Saturday. I'm bringing something special for the power nozzle competition.

I really had fun at the last two so I wanted to arrive earlier this year. I'm on vacation and I'm not under any pressure. I talked to Fred Nelson this week and I've just about got his arm twisted into making the trip. Helen and Ida may ride again...... like we did so many years ago when we first visited you!

Batten down the hatches Rolla, here we come!!

That's wonderful news Charlie. We always have so much fun together. I started the Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Convention in 2007 with Austin Wilder (RIP) and the St. Louis collectors and it just grew and grew. This is our 16th continuous Convention.

The cleaning contest is going to be filmed for YouTube as is a segment I like to call "the reading room". As Mama Ru Paul says "The Library is now open". Last weekend I read a selection of posts on VL, all from one thread, in the voice of the person who typed it. People were rolling on the floor.

convention

Wish I could have come to that barbecue, if I could drive I would have been there but looking forward to the convention. Not sure which canister I'm going to bring yet, I might also bring one central vacuum unit which of course will be the Drainvac Twin Turbo, now that machine is a beast, Tom, maybe we can get it to change the color of your furniture again, or sweep someone off their feet, literally.
Mike
