It has just come to my attention that Roger Proehl passed away. I wish to express my condolences to his family and friends.
Roger was part of the second phase of the Vacuum Cleaner Collector's club, and yes, that was the correct spelling. I met him and his partner Charles in May of 1993 when he attended the eighth annual meeting of the club. Yes, they were meetings not conventions back then. The location was club headquarters in Naperville, Illinois. I say second phase because the club had been put on hold due to lack of member support and was in danger of termination. That weekend was a turning point, and I'm happy to say that Roger was a part of it. All I can add now is that he will be in my thoughts and prayers. And may I mention that it was at that meeting that my cat Caligula became the official club mascot. Alex Taber. |

Hello all, when I heard about the death of Roger Proehl I felt the need to rejoin the group and share my condolences.
I first met Roger via telephone in 1991 and in person in 1993 at the meeting at Alex Tabor's home. He and his partner Charles remained dear friends with Arlee (my partner of 38 years and husband of six years) and me, only losing contact when his health began to fail. I hope Charles has all the most glorious vacuum cleaners in Heaven that he could ever have wished for. Somewhere in my boxes of early VCCC materials, I'm pretty sure I have photos of that club meeting in 1993. I'll see if I can dig them out. R.I.P. Roger |

So many of our 'old timers,' the one's who helped start the club are forgotten, and they were the people who made the V.C.C.C. what it is today. And I'm proud to say that Roger was one of them. I also have to add his partner, Charles, was a strong supporter of his interests. Back then, very few of us had people who were behind us. Most had to fight the wife or significant other who was embarrassed by our interests. Charles was extremely supportive, and it was a delight to see them together.
