Im having some trouble with my vacuum after a complete teardown and rebuild. Greased, oiled and cleaned everything beautifully as well as replacement of the carbon brushes. Since I've done this and got it all back together, the belt lifter gets blazing hot,the belt seems to be riding on the edge of the belt lifter hook burning the belt, the motor is running slower and weaker And there is almost no suction. I've rebuilt 5 others the exact same and all work great and lay down a beating. What did I do wrong here? I'm stumped.. Thinking about it now more. Do you suppose the brush wires being accidentally put on backwards could do this?

Yes, definitely, you have the 2 carbon brush wires reversed. The one coming from the foot switch goes to the top carbon brush and the one that is coming from the field goes on the bottom,. I hope this helps you. |

Kelton,
I have since uploaded this manual in PDF form to the numerous Facebook vacuum groups we belong to (Antique, Vintage and Classic Vacuum Cleaners; Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Group; and the like), with the title "Kirby 1CR-1CB-2CB Service Manual 1977" and it can be found in each group's Files section. ~Ben |

Yes a non Facebook link would be appreciated. I have never had a Fakebook account and never will. Tried to make one to buy a vacuum off their classified section and they wanted my photo ID and social security card. No way. They banned my account as well because I refused to put my real name. Sooner that site goes bankrupt and goes offline the better.

I totally agree Husyvacs. Its amazing how many people are only too keen to part with all their details for Facebook, Twitter, Apple, Siri/Alexa... Facebook wanted me to send a full scan of my Passport!
Our banks won't allow some simple online purchases now, unless you subscribe to Online Banking and Mobile App. I think I'm only a few steps away from living off-grid and lining the walls with tin-foil 😁 |
