This is a very rare Kenmore KenKart. It has a front swivel wheel to keep it from tipping and a side top outlet for the hose.

This is an Air-Way model 55. They made approximately 4 million of them between 1937 when they were purple and 1950 when they were blue.

These are just some of my collection of water filtration vacuums. They all use a rotating separator. The very first plastic rainbow, the model D3A from 1980 is quite special. There is a Vivenso, two Ritellos, two Hylas, and an Ocean Blue.

This black Rexair model B came out of an estate of a doctor in Illinois. The cleaning lady hated it and never used it so it was like new when I got it. This is a 1940 model.

The Rainbow D2 does seem to be the most plausible inspiration for R2D2 - what is your source for this? |

This is an example of an early classic three. Note the straight handle, and the cord hooks are on the bag side. With the cord wound up it really makes it heavy on one side, prone to tipping

The pink Lewyt (Reply #27, photo 2 of 3) brings back major childhood memories. That was the first vacuum I ever remember and the first I ever used at age 3 or 4. I remember feeling quite empowered when I figured out how to change out the tools on the end of the hose and get into the bag compartment. Ours was a slightly different color combo, though. The motor unit on top was the deeper 'bubblegum' pink and the lower 'dustbin' portion was charcoal gray, similar to the one in photo 1 of 3, but without the hammertone finish. My parents kept that thing until they moved in the late '90s.

The Delphine must have the biggest motor fitted to Domestic vacuum, ( not central vac) 3 stage( 3 fans ) by pass motor Its a very interesting machine. Although I prefer a Rainbow as a Vacuum cleaner the Delphine made one hectic carpet cleaning machine. I love how they integrated the pump into the solution tank and that 3 stage motor gives you commercial style sucking power when extracting the water from the carpets |

One of the first models of Dyson sold in America was the DC 07 at Walmart. It had a shorter cord, a shorter hose, and no clutch. They only had that design for a few months, before they got the “all floors“ model. These are both Walmart exclusive models.

Wow man I am so jealous of your Rainbow collection! I used to sell the PE waaaay back in 1997. I really love the new in the box D3A - I think it is a quality built Rainbow matched with that exceptional Eureka nozzle - it's like a platinum marriage. And then, you get all of those awesome attachments AND the extra long hoses with it!

For the first 21 years of my vacuum career, I owned a vacuum cleaner shop that was also an authorized rainbow service center. I could order my parts directly from rainbow at their wholesale prices. This was arranged through our registered general distributor. I was also able to purchase complete machines through the distributor and I would sell them just like any other rainbow salesman would, to the ultimate consumer. One weekend I won a sales contest. In theory you were supposed to sell your free machine, your prize, and keep the money. I kept the machine.
I think it was rainbow’s best model because there is no circuitboard. The motor easily disassembles for cleaning and servicing. The power nozzle really does deep clean. And the motor cannot overheat because it is a bypass motor. It has excellent constant airflow and the separator is easy to clean. |
