June 4th 2022 is the 65th anniversary of Henry Dreyfus patenting the Hoover Convertible 65 and 31 for The Hoover Company. The "65" is 65.
It's also the birthday of one of my favorite people, John Gregory - the Hoover guru and authority. His vacuum shop (Gregory's Sweeper Central) is the last Hoover-only store. I highly recommend any vacuum collector and Hoover enthusiast visiting Pennsylvania (Pittston, Scranton, Dunmore) stop by for a fascinating look at Hoover history. The Hoover model 65 is one of my all-time favorites.

The Hoover convertible model 31 featured a step on switch on the handle bail. That would be used again on the commercial convertibles.

The bag feels like Mrs. Hoover ripped down her shower curtains and sewed them into outer bags. The vinyl is that heavy.

So the Hoover Convertible I rescued from curbside at age 15 was a 65. That's the one I rewound the field coil in to restore low speed. Thanks for the images!

The Hoover commercial convertibles have no problems picking up dry pepper cookies. They can easily inhale the caraway seeds off the very, very dry Irish soda bread. They are a wonderful help in the homes of the feeble minded.

Some would call it pink. Others would call it “pank”. In no case should you drink the tea.

This poor Hoover actually drank the tea and accidentally inhaled an ancient pepper cookie while removing stains from Karastans behind locked doors so the garden party doesn’t see. Heavens to Betsy. It turned from Mr. Happy to “Mr. Yukk” in just two shakes of a phony old chorus gurl.

The 2 speed switch allowed the motor to speed up for 50% more suction when using the dusting tools. Just insert the converter in the track. Convertible!

The first Convertibles had a blower accessory. John was so nice to send me all this wonderful information. Can't wait to see him in less than a week now. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures of his amazing Hoover store. And a good number of my friends will be in town too. We all have cell phones, so it should be a great party at John's "Sweeper Central" in Dunmore, Pennsylvania.

It's 2022. The elderly really shouldn't leave Hoovers on staircases. Could lead to a nasty fall. And living alone, who would find the poor dears? Always the bridesmaid and NEVER the bride. Even in their 'golden' years. As Vera once said "How old ARE you Mame - the Truth?" Some of these old Hoover gals are really getting up there.
