Or being one of the numerous engineers who helped design the various prototypes of the model LX in the late 1940's, and up to 1954.
There were countless ideas for this machine from the ejection system to various attachments, such as the power polisher, and garment-aire bag. And speaking of bags, the early ones were called 'wrappers,' the term 'bag,' didn't come till the LXI a few years later. I was fortunate enough to see the 'Museum,' that was part of the factory. That was in 1968, when I was a salesman for Electrolux selling he new 1205, out of the branch office, in Hamden, Connecticut. This Museum, was not open to the public, and was in actuality, the building where the afore mentioned prototypes were displayed along with a myriad of tools. Yes, to have worked at that factory must have been a thrilling experience. |

I was the President of the V.C.C,C. in 1999 when I secured a tour for us of the factory in Bristol. It was there that I was given a Commemorative Edition for the club (who knows where it is now). We asked about all those prototypes for the bagged cleaner, but as it had been more than 50 years since they were designed, they were all thrown away. They did have a large assortment of attachments that were not only used on US models, as but other Lux cleaners around the world. It was so much fun. I learned all about the CA (commercial automatic) from the engineer who designed it. One of the best times I've had with the vacuum collecting hobby.

all these factory closures and this big company relocated in the 80s from the United States and Europe to countries like Asia where labor and cheaper are a great shame...
