My carpet is infested with fleas and I need something that is more powerful to remove them. I know direct-air vacuums are FANTASTIC when it comes to carpet cleaning. |

In all seriousness I'd maybe seek out a cheap direct air for sale and then just toss it when finished. Old kirby? Sanitaire something. I do think you're gonna have to treat it with some sort of chemical to completely get rid of them though.

Spray with Raid flea spray, then wait a couple of hours before vacuuming. |

Throw the vacuum away? Jesus it's fleas not nuclear waste lol. I have had dogs for the past 15 years. I deal with fleas every summer and fall. It's nothing to panic over. I never had any serious problems and it was usually only confined to the bedroom.
1. Vacate the room of any unnecessary junk. 2. Strip the room of all bedding/curtains/linens. 3. Hang the linens outside and spray with a flea killing spray and leave in the sun to get hot. 4. Put down flea killing spray or powder onto the carpet and bed and follow the directions for pickup. If you have a bagless vacuum best to go with a liquid spray and not the powder. 5. Throw linens in the wash. 6. Vacuum the room on all fabrics and carpeting. 7. Wash dogs/cats and apply flea medicine (I use PetArmor). 8. Reassemble room and all furniture/bed then spray carpet and bedding again as it sits in the room and leave it. Vacuum next day. You may have to repeat it every few days on the carpeting if you have it and spray the bed too but you should be good after that. The flea medicine will work at stopping the dogs from tracking them in from outside and the cleanup job should take care of them in the house all at once. Just do one room a day if that's all you can handle. Spray the vacuum if you want on its brushroll and bag if bagged and leave sit in the garage overnight. I never cleaned mine and it never bothered anything. Most people do not know this but the static electricity generated by the vacuum is large enough to kill bugs as they go into it. |
