I had this bissell plus for about 2 months I think now. I got it at a thrift store for $6. all it needed was a new bag and its works great.
Someone threw it to the thrift because this vacuum has a safety hazard when the bag gets full the brush roll doesnt spin anymore. They thought the brush roll was jammed oro broken and it wasnt, just a full bag.

The brushroll shuts off when bag is full? Wow I have never heard of this.

Lift Off

I should have at least half of this Bissell in attic if you want spare parts. Also have original box for your Corvette vac if you didn't get.
(Also confused about brush shut off.)

OldCrankman,

Even though you don't say there is anything wrong with your machine, here is something to try. Flip it over and remove the brushroll and the belt. Clean all the hair etc. from the ends of the roller.Try spinning the roller while holding it between your hands. You may be able to remove the ends and oil the bearings.

Check the belt.Even though it is working, it is probably worn and stretched a bit. You would be amazed at how much better your vacuum cleaner will work with a new belt, making sure you have the correct one installed. Any time you hear the brushroll slow down or stall, it's going to cause the belt to heat up and stretch.

Maintain the "three B's"bags, belts and brushroll and you're good to go!

Ok I might see what is up with the Bissell if it needs a need belt.
Btw, if you keep the brush roll on, on the Bissell Plus and put it in it's upright position it will automatically turn off the brush roll. This machine also has a automatic height adjustment and it's a lift off.

I have one also from 1995 but mine is the maroon instead of green and it's 11 amp.

I like to use the blue Bissell Febreze bags in these.

Interesting.

I also have a 3553 I don't recall seeing any electronics in the machine it was rather simple from what I recall. They're decent machines performance wise, a short and fairly wide airpath puts it's nozzle airflow above many other machines.

I did some work to it

I did manage to make the brush roll sound normal as it should then being crazy loud. Also the motor bearing sounds like its slightly starting to get bad to so I need motor bearings for it.

Good luck trying to put new motor bearings in that thing. It would be VERY hard to pry that motor apart because it is fixed after the motor was being put together. It's not like a Kirby or a Rainbow where you can take apart easier and buy a new part for the motor. Best solution is to get a new motor, but the motor is no longer available.

I got 3 choices

oldcrankman's profile picture
1. Try everything i can to buy a new motor for it.
2. Use it for parts.
3. Scrap it.

Well folks

I put some use into the Bissell plus today and the motor bearings sounded a little better. But I don’t know if it’s permanent.
