It's been my plan to install a central vac when I finally buy a place. I had my eye on the Allegro Zenith acoustic as it uses a 8.4" motor, could be run on a regular 20 amp circuit and was quiet.

Then my friend Josh spotted this Canavac unit for sale. It too is an 8.4" motor unit can be run on a 20 amp circuit and it's quiet. He's picked it up for me so I won't be saying it will May/june sometime if all goes according to plan

I hope Canavac is a decent brand. Any experience with them?

These are good central vac units, I like them. They are the same Canadian company who also made for units for Hoover and Maytag. I wouldn't personally mind using one of these for my own home.

That 8.4" is a great motor. I would definitely use with a disposable bag. Keeps things clean, and avoids the residual airflow loss you get with a permanent cloth filter that's been exposed to years of dirt.

An exhaust muffler is in order; without it those motors have quite a shrill exhaust note.

You did well!

I will definitely be using hepa style bags in this. So much cleaner and convenient. I'll make sure to get one until I move it's going to be free standing in my apartment so...the noise level may be a slight issue for now

Canavac

They are a good brand I think. I have a unit that uses this motor, the Vacumaid SR800, I don't use a muffler and it's not too bad but I think there might be some sound blocking material inside. I use all of my central vacuum units free standing in my apartment, they are great.
