I just bought a mystery Eureka. There were two labels underneath (one stacked on top of the other)--one said it was a 1489B, the other (underneath) says it's a 2087A. The date stamp is 1980. It has a weird dent in the hood (now covered by a sticker). All the parts look like they're the same age.

The model numbers are way way off for what I know are Model 2087 and Model 1489. Very bizarre as these numbers do not match the model in the picture. Unless for some bizarre reason the base with the ratings plate was transplanted into this model from a 2087 or a 1489. Maybe this is a Franken-Eureka? :-)

Get more pics of the labels.

I have what I thought was a newer Sanitaire but the model and tags trace to a 1990s Eureka The Boss, so....????? I still am not sure if Eureka might have sold it as a Sanitaire officially or it's a clone.

It could be a vac store scam trying to sell off a used model as a brand new model with stocks of spare parts they have laying around. I have two Kirbys that are clones of the then-new models that even fooled me until I started digging in and doing more research. A Sentria I cloned into a Sentria II and a Kirby 1CR cloned into a Classic III - they even changed the entire front fan chamber on that one.

It looks a lot like the Eureka 1458, but a bit off...

I doubt it,

I doubt it, but is it possible that a previous owner somehow broke the Lexan base on their machine?

They make HEPA bags for that machine now.

Nick,

Could you have misread '1439' as '1489'?

The Model 1432 has the same styling with the white or cream monotone hood and base with an accented decal and bumper color. I personally haven't seen any other Eureka F & Gs with this color concept, which makes me wonder if it was done for a certain retailer.

Here's the 1432 from a current eBay listing:
