All-

After dailying an original single-speed Rainbow E series for years, I am debating trading up for an SRX. My local distributor quoted $3200 which seems…inflated. Is this in the correct ballpark? Or is it indeed inflated?

I think that’s the going rate- it’s what I paid a couple of years ago. I also have the single speed E series and find them overall more similar than I had expected. Of course, the SRX has a vastly improved carpet shampooer, but otherwise they seem to be same level of quality. Having the four speeds is interesting, but the air cleaning function is still limited by water supply. The blue light in the water tank is cool, though - it makes me feel like I’m using a nuclear powered vacuum.

Actually, I have keep the E upgraded throughout the years. It has the wet pickup electric hose, as well as the current Aquamate. I also have the Minijet for it. The power nozzle is…not so impressive…and I had the sole plate crack on me the other day, so that’s getting replaced.

I think the itch for the new Rainbow is similar to the itch for a new car. I also think the new Kirby Avalir in blue is quite stunning but I have exactly zero need for that-my house is mostly bare floors and rugs. A canister serves a much better purpose (plus when I vacuum, I go around the baseboards in every room, clean the chair rails in the room, etc).

Yes, product lust was my only real motive for getting the SRX. The magnetic hose attachment system is also a definite improvement, but, still, the original E series is so good that the decision to get a new SRX wouldn’t stand up well to rational scrutiny, but making purchases for emotional reasons can still be OK, as long as you promise yourself not to feel guilty about it.

I've had my SRX for quite some time and it is freaking awesome. I only use the power nozzle to deep clean my furniture because my Rainbowmate for some reason boggs down and sometimes stop spinning. The power nozzle on furniture does a better job at cleaning. I have flooring throughout my home and use the jumbo hard floor brush because well the power nozzle on flooring isn't really needed. I also have the aquamate and haven't used it because well, i don't have any carpeting. The mop attachment is ok but its a bit of a workout and by the time in done cleaning with it I'm sweating. So to me, it does a good job at mopping, but isn't neccessary for my small apartment. I rather use my shark lift away steam mop instead and its a lot quieter. The minjet attachment is ehh ok. The thing I don't really like about it is the fact that it lacks different brush heads to use. The thing I do like about the SRX and it was a huge selling point for me, was the hydrolic system that raises and lowers the machine onto the water basin. I personally would like to slide my water basin into the machine rather than having to lift the machine onto the basin and then having latch it and then put it on the dolly. I do wish Rexair will come out with a soft roller floor brush, like what dyson has, for the systems that way consumers like us don't have to take off the floor brush and clean it constantly while vacuuming pet hair. I also do wish that they will come out with addional brushes for the miniject or make a motorize minijet with a spinning brush.

I'm still living with my 2006 gold 2 speed and love it. I prefer the last black model to the SRX...$3000+ seems outrageous

$3200

Is way too much, my dealer does not have a middle man so that helps. Plus it threw him off guard when I let him know that I know what he pays from the factory. I simply said like most things 50% markup is fine and I paid $1,200 for my e2 black

CTVacman-if your dealer would be willing to work a similar deal on an SRX, I’d be happy to give him a call!

JAG, he probably would. I never asked about pricing for the new model because I wasn’t wowed by it in his showroom.

Hmmmmm

Does he ship or does it have to be in person?

You sound like a good negotiator. And you literally had that dealer by the balls when you let him know what you knew! At that point, he knew he had better just shut up and take the sale LOL.

Lol

Yup, I mean fair is fair, these dealers charging anything over $1,500 is criminal in my mind given what they cost, I enter it with tact which I think helps. Not as bad as a Kirby but the statement that not many people wake up and say I’m going to go buy a $3000 vacuum today kinda applies to a rainbow, I mention that to my dealer that I’m doing to him and how many times does he get people calling? Because of the initial dealing with him he knows that when I come to him that I won’t be paying full price. But if people want to pay over $1500 good for them.

so exactly who is it that's in line to get a cut from a sale? I know there's a list of people... It's Rexair...then dist...then the person who does the demo...that's 3...there may be several more but can't think of them. But it seems like when you cut all of those other people out and just buy one straight from the dealer...they would still make money at $1500.. I still don't think I would want an SRX
