Caddy Vac Fan Stuck

Did you put the washer that goes between the fan and the bearing back into it? If not, then it would make the fan too close to the back of the housing. Is the fan actually melted to the motor?

I have only ever gotten one Hoover Elite that had the fan fused to the motor, and that was because the fan itself had cracked and deformed backwards. If this issue happened after you worked on it, that leads me to believe that it is something related to the rebuild.

The way I removed the fan of my melted Elite was a series of careful prying around the edge of the fan to break it free, and then I was able to turn it off the shaft in a somewhat normal fashion.

You would typically want to avoid using vice grips on the shaft, as that can scratch and mar the area where the belt mounts. If you remove Elite fans on the regular, I suggest getting a rag and grabbing it by the cooling fans without bending them. That is how I remove them and I have rebuild an ungodly amount of them and I have yet to find one that I could not remove like that (even the melted one).

Also, the carbon brush guides themselves on the 12-amp Elite motors actually remove very easily without bending the backs of them. I just get a good grip on them with my fingers, sometimes counter the mount for the push connecter with a small flathead screwdriver, and pull. They remove quite easily like that, though the 7-amp and other variants are a tad more difficult.

Checkrate/Likes So I just cleaned up my white hoover caddy vac and I was trying to take the fan off to clean it up but I end removing the armature instead so I put it back and after reassembling the vacuum and plug it in and the motor got jammed. Now I'm trying to get the fan and armature off but it's stuck real good. Anyone had this problem before? View Full Size

Checkrate/Likes Fanofvacuums2, on the same day my dad and I tried to twist off the fan and armature together but unfortunately the only way we did was to drill out the armature and that worked plus we managed to get the fan off. So I did came across a new old stock armature from ebay and I already got a new fan on the way too so hopefully the caddy vac will work normally again. Taught me lesson.👍

Checkrate/Likes I forgot one of thing, the washer was still between the armature and fan.
