I went on Kirbys website to check out a few things. I noticed they’ve updated it quite a bit. There’s now an option to buy a Kirby without a demo, straight from their website. I think it’s quite interesting to see them make this change. I am curious to see if, and how this’ll affect overall sales.

That price increase is quite alarming. Especially since the regular MSRP for these are like 1500. I’m curious to what we’re getting for an extra 600 more.

I suggested online sales to the Kirby distributer in Atlanta.Filter Queen is having online sales. Are other DTD premium vacuum companies going to follow?

Post# 451501 , Reply# 3   4/12/2022 at 06:57 (735 days old) by Juju93 (South Georgia)

Yeah but they’ve had years to do it. Why now are they doing it? It would’ve been beneficial a few years ago to have had this done. I’m also curious to how financing them would be if people by them online. I think they may have had this planned before they decide to launch their new model, if that’s even true.

Finally!

I noticed that they had financing through Affirm too, pretty neat

I’m not to familiar with affirm. I’ve seen them on other retailers sites but don’t know much if not anything about them. I’m also wondering how it will ship out to people who purchase them online with no demo and how it’ll be packaged. Also will there be shipping charges associated with it too?

A couple of reactions...

First, I'm glad to see the online sales option, which is definitely an improvement from their traditional home invasion tactics. I'm guessing the reason this is happening now is because of Kirby's recent acquisition by Right Lane Industries, or whatever it's called. It could be that they are a little more right-minded about their sales approach than Scott & Pester was. They seemed to rely heavily on plausible deniability about what their sales force was doing out in the field, putting it back on the local independent distributors.

But that price--I would sincerely hope it includes shipping, or at least free delivery and setup from a local branch, if there is a branch within a reasonable distance. The only advantage to the home demo/invasion approach was—if you had the stomach to haggle—that you could negotiate the price down out of the stratosphere. Now, it appears the new no-haggle price IS the stratosphere! There's still a lot of room for improvement, as far as I can see, since the consumer loses out either way. At least now, the consumers are truly willing victims.

As for me, I believe I'll continue buying them (if and when I buy any more) on the second hand market for pennies on the dollar. That's still Kirby's biggest competitor—itself.

The price of a new FQ is over three thousand (on their website). At least Kirby gives you some options when purchasing the vac and the price is a lot less than FQ. I personally cannot believe the price of the new FQ.

Could this possibly mean there is a new model coming out because they have updated the website or I’m I talking rubbish

I seriously doubt a new model is coming out!!!’ I think Kirby is just maintaining right now and trying different sales methods i.e. selling online.

On a sidenote we have the highest inflation right now since 1981.

I wonder

I cannot help but wonder if their online sales tactics are similar to what Tacony's used to look like. When an online order was placed dealers in that area could ship the machine to get the sale. Machines sold online were also priced At MSRP. We usually sold machines at MAP (minimum advertised price) so the in store prices may have seemed like a better deal. I doubt they'd be doing the former but the latter seems likely. I think when they're selling for 2K online when you're getting an in home demo and the machine is hundreds less it may seem like a deal.

It’s pricey but not outrageous.

Considering it’s an all metal product, I can’t balk too much at the price.

Especially considering that I’m pretty sure new Rainbows are around 3200-3300 now.

Not surprised

I figured that Kirby would eventually follow into Filter Queen's foot steps. But geez, that price in my humble opinion is WAY too much for what they're worth. Maybe for like a breast cancer edition, though certainly not for a Avalir 2! Even Kirby just recently raised their prices at their rebuild center, a rebuild is now $375.00 plus shipping for a non-original owner. Should've had my 512 rebuilt when I had the chance. At least it's still cheaper than buying a brand new Kirby.

According to Kirby's official Amazon store, they will also be selling refurbished Kirby units in the future. Wonder if the rebuild program will still apply or if the rebuild program will even exist in future years.

Now that's smart. New Kirbys always compete with the used ones since there are just so many. To be able to offer new ones as well as genuine Kirby factory refurbished units (which look and function as new) is wonderful for the consumer. And to be able to order them on Amazon. How wonderful.

I bought a brand new Kirby last year and I love it. I have never really liked uprights but I really do like this one and I'm glad I got it and I got it for under $1,000.00.I just bought the base every day attachments. It has served me well. I use it pretty often.

I'm liking these new changes.. sounds like they're really stepping things up and giving people more options.. Has there been perhaps a change in leadership recently just curious..

S2_82 asked: Has there been perhaps a change in leadership recently just curious.

I reply: Yes. Kirby was sold about a year ago to a company called Right Lane Industries, or something like that. It appears they've now begun to remake Kirby in their own image. Hopefully, they won't cheapen the machines' design with excessive amounts of plastic and circuit boards or--heaven forbid--farm out production to China. That would be the end, as far as I'm concerned.

@ Human, thanks.. I definitely didn't know that. Yup,hopefully this new company will maintain the high quality standards Kirby is known for.. if you really think about it, we don't have too many made in USA vacuums anymore, unfortunately.. :(

Definitely a bold move by Kirby. I'd be curious now to see how much they would offer for their "certified" refurbished units and what models they would have available. Imagine buying a vintage Kirby off from Amazon!

That would be so cool seeing them sell older models I think this move by Kirby is ace I’m just curious to see their next model even if it is an avalir 3

Post# 451765 , Reply# 26   4/18/2022 at 18:28 (729 days old) by juju93 (South Georgia)
^no... no more avalirs/sentria

I seriously hope they don't come out with a avalir 3 (at that point sentria 5). If thats the case make it a true color change and not just the accent colors. Ditch the black coloring, its long overdue for retirement. Come out with something worth it. Cause 4 years with avalir 2 is way to long and is probably located in every pawn shop in america at this point and is just another G-series machine that needs to be redesign from the ground up.

This is such a soap opera.

Would it too much to ask for everyone to just MOVE ON and then wait and see what Kirby actually does??? Y’all are just ruining it for yourselves!!!

So has the time to return a Kirby, i.e. cancel the sale changed? I'd think a 30 day return window would be more reasonable for internet sales. Given Kirby's reputation for sales practices, am surprised that there aren't more state laws protecting consumers with longer return periods...

I just seen an online ad for Kirby on YouTube. Price aside I’m glad to see them trying some different marketing and sales strategies. Let’s hope they find a way to keep themselves relevant in todays market.
