I went on Kirbys website to check out a few things. I noticed they’ve updated it quite a bit. There’s now an option to buy a Kirby without a demo, straight from their website. I think it’s quite interesting to see them make this change. I am curious to see if, and how this’ll affect overall sales.

That price increase is quite alarming. Especially since the regular MSRP for these are like 1500. I’m curious to what we’re getting for an extra 600 more. |

First, I'm glad to see the online sales option, which is definitely an improvement from their traditional home invasion tactics. I'm guessing the reason this is happening now is because of Kirby's recent acquisition by Right Lane Industries, or whatever it's called. It could be that they are a little more right-minded about their sales approach than Scott & Pester was. They seemed to rely heavily on plausible deniability about what their sales force was doing out in the field, putting it back on the local independent distributors.
But that price--I would sincerely hope it includes shipping, or at least free delivery and setup from a local branch, if there is a branch within a reasonable distance. The only advantage to the home demo/invasion approach was—if you had the stomach to haggle—that you could negotiate the price down out of the stratosphere. Now, it appears the new no-haggle price IS the stratosphere! There's still a lot of room for improvement, as far as I can see, since the consumer loses out either way. At least now, the consumers are truly willing victims. As for me, I believe I'll continue buying them (if and when I buy any more) on the second hand market for pennies on the dollar. That's still Kirby's biggest competitor—itself. |

I cannot help but wonder if their online sales tactics are similar to what Tacony's used to look like. When an online order was placed dealers in that area could ship the machine to get the sale. Machines sold online were also priced At MSRP. We usually sold machines at MAP (minimum advertised price) so the in store prices may have seemed like a better deal. I doubt they'd be doing the former but the latter seems likely. I think when they're selling for 2K online when you're getting an in home demo and the machine is hundreds less it may seem like a deal.

Considering it’s an all metal product, I can’t balk too much at the price. Especially considering that I’m pretty sure new Rainbows are around 3200-3300 now. |

I figured that Kirby would eventually follow into Filter Queen's foot steps. But geez, that price in my humble opinion is WAY too much for what they're worth. Maybe for like a breast cancer edition, though certainly not for a Avalir 2! Even Kirby just recently raised their prices at their rebuild center, a rebuild is now $375.00 plus shipping for a non-original owner. Should've had my 512 rebuilt when I had the chance. At least it's still cheaper than buying a brand new Kirby.

According to Kirby's official Amazon store, they will also be selling refurbished Kirby units in the future. Wonder if the rebuild program will still apply or if the rebuild program will even exist in future years.

I'm liking these new changes.. sounds like they're really stepping things up and giving people more options.. Has there been perhaps a change in leadership recently just curious.. |

S2_82 asked: Has there been perhaps a change in leadership recently just curious.
I reply: Yes. Kirby was sold about a year ago to a company called Right Lane Industries, or something like that. It appears they've now begun to remake Kirby in their own image. Hopefully, they won't cheapen the machines' design with excessive amounts of plastic and circuit boards or--heaven forbid--farm out production to China. That would be the end, as far as I'm concerned. |
