I have a NOS Hoover Legacy that I used literally 5 times. On what would have been the 6th time using this vacuum, it would not turn on--even the light would not illuminate. It is not the switch or cord. This was a brand new in box unit that I acquired from a hoarder. I removed the bag assembly to expose the 2 prongs that carry the current from the bag assembly and attached an extension cord to provide a power source and still nothing. Any thoughts would be welcome. My uneducated guess is that something went terribly wrong with the motor. Thanks

Try opening the motor up and check the carbon brushes. It could be a stuck carbon brush that isn't making contact with the armature and therefore not turning on.

I have zero knowledge on the model so not sure if a safety switch is ajar, stuck, or malfunctioned.
I suspect a simple open circuit somewhere. The challenge would be to find it.
Do a good visual inspection of all wiring and connections when you have the unit opened up.

I second

Rob in regards to the carbon brushes, I had this happen to a NOS DAM, except mine the wire broke on the brushes. If nothing else I have a NOS Legacy for sale. I have used it a couple of times, but you’d be hard pressed to tell.

Motor Brushes

Although I have zero electrical training, I am not averse to disassembling this vacuum and checking the brushes. One thing I recall is that during the last use, the motor seemed to bog down slightly and I turned off the vacuum to inspect the belt and agitator which both were perfect and turned freely. Is anyone aware of a video that shows the disassembly process? I will report back once I have the time to perform the examination.

My Legacy is WORKING AGAIN!

Following the suggestion to verify the brushes are in the correct position, I removed the motor to take a closer look. The brushes appeared to be positioned correctly. When I reassembled the vacuum, to my surprise, it worked! Now perhaps one of the brushes was stuck and in the process of disassembling the unit, perhaps I jarred the brush back into normal position. Regardless, the vacuum works perfectly for the moment.
