All info and details will be posted by the end of the weekend. Plans are finally underway. I was at the hotel this morning and at the venue for the Sat p.m. dinner. Lots of fun things are planned. So, get ready to come to SCRANTON: "The Electric City". Dates are: June 23, 24, and 25.

Demonstration by a vacuum company rep, cleaning contest, general meeting, including elections, opportunities to visit thrift stores(including a giant flea market), garden party at my home, lunch and visit to Joe Kassock's home, visit to local vac shop, closing dinner (banquet to some) at a fantastic Italian eatery.
Perhaps a visit to an Anthracite coal museum, Steamtown train museum, The Houdini Museum, are options as well. |

I recall seeing pictures of the last meeting. I seem to recall the pictured attendees were without masks. Did any of the attendees end up testing positive for Covid-19? |

Yes, plans are underway for the upcoming V.C.C.C. (That stands for The Vacuum Cleaner Collectors' Club)..the one and only VCCC.Some might confuse, or try to confuse others with something different. The club is registered / banks, tax I.D. etc as The V.C.C.C.. Our last convention was before COVID. thus, no masks. Anyone who feels safer, better, more comfortable wearing a mask is certainly welcome to wear one without judgement.
More info very soon. The mask mandate has been lifted at our college. However, I still wear one when there are crowds, especially since I have students from 7 different countries. |

(Last minute contract stuff) The info will be on here as well as on the V.C.C.C. website.
We'll post the direct number so a s not to have to go to the national number. People will meet on Thursday afternoon..meet (board meeting) setups, etc. ONE of the nice things is that nobody will have to pay separately for any meals this time. (people who attend any conventions/mini meets/ mega meets have gone to restaurants, etc..So, there IS a 'cost ' involved. We have great meals planned, a few outside activities, trips to 2 collector's homes a list of museums, attractions in the area, plus a few little surprises in store. |

When I create a new thread and select the radio button by Conventions, Mini-Meets and Parties. I'm directed to the vintage forum. Other members of vland also post their events on the vintage forum as well. Perhaps, this site needs to be reorganized which is not my decision to make.

to sell, some use as gifts, prizes, etc.
No need for the "Supermarket" as, I'm not selling here. And, they are all vintage items. I remember having a minimeet here. We had both a cheese AND chocolate fondue. HOOVER, of course. Now, THAT was fun... casual. Some of these items, I have 3,4,5 of. Will be great to see them go out into the world. Some are already spoken for. Fun times. |

John
I wish I could attend, but I am still Covid shy and try not to leave my little bubble. Right now Iowa is in one of the safe low categories, no thanks to our idiot governor, Covid Kim. Our local city officials handled Covid so much better. Although I am fully vaccinated, traveling just doesn't seem comfortable. I know they say planes are safe but I am not buying that. It is all recycled air. Would love to see your collection as well as Joe's. However, I will not go to any cemetery with you...inside joke that John will understand. I see no problem with posting on this thread and I believe the reason we do post here is because you have to be a paid member to the Vacuumland.org to post in Misc. It provides a space to communicate these types of items. Robert does an awesome job here and we should all appreciate the options we have. |

I'm even working on getting all of the snacks that are made here in PA. For example; Hershey chocolate (Hershey, PA is not too far from me), potato chips made here in PA, etc. Snacks will be served in nice, vintage bowls.
We're gathering items from the T.V. show, "The Office', and are working on a possible tour of the Anthracite Museum right here in Scranton. People are telling me about vintage displays they are planning in the meeting room. We're actually utilizing 2 meeting rooms: one for sale, raffle items and refreshments (hospitality), and the other for meetings, contests, etc. |

the museum ... at a great rate!./ The mine , itself, might be a bit much for some.
But, it is all very rich in history of our area. I went into the mine on a school trip. Every child in the area should go in it and see what our ancestors went through. I'm also going to arrange a visit to a vac shop. Lots to do. |

It is amazing what I'm finding. There'll be lots to see, buy, trade, etc............ I might even be getting a great surprise from the great friend, Tom Anderson................ right outta N Canton. (vintage, too) |

How does a handheld “mate with a 28”? Are they even anatomically compatible? LOL Or are you referring to them having the same color schemes, being made during the same era, etc? |

as Bojacks.I even unearthed my little green trash can. When I hosted mini meets, I'd put it out for my guests to take.
There are Eureeeeka, Simplicity, Oreck, etc. These will be offered free of charge. At conventions, there are always some genuine Hoover free items, and I take some. If you take, I believe, you should also give. I'll be glad to have the space! |

dinner at my house. I'm getting the supplies for the cookies and the cakes. There is a simple baker's secret for cake flour. There's a way to substitute the "Soft As Silk" or "Swans Down" cake flour, at about half the price. Most good bakers know this. I learned it yrs ago, as, I used to buy that cake four. No real need anymore. But, I'll use a vintage mixer for sure. |

Former members in good standing (when they left) may come. There are also a few former members (who left and are in good standing) who'll be there too. They, of course, cannot vote. But, they may attend.
Tom Anderson left on his own decision. He's coming here to my home early to help me. He's never been to Pittston, Scranton area. We've been friends a decade and a half. It'll be great to show him around the area. |

Sure wish I could attend. Covid numbers are going up here and now that masks on planes are not required, I won't be flying anywhere.
Now we are short staffed at work again so getting any time off is almost impossible. I have 520 hours to use and have not been earning the benefit....covid sucks! Glad to see that Scott is going to be able to make it. Miss many of the good folks who attend. |

Tom Anderson will be here n a few weeks. That'll be awesome. I think he'll help me display some vintage machines...perhaps the stick vacs, etc.... I want his opinions on my collection. I'll even cook some fun things for us. I'm told I'm a pretty good 'host'. From fancy dinners to casual cookouts/barbecues, to even a garden party. Some will like it. Critics, well... they won't even be here, so, who really cares? Michael Turner was so right!

pics of our local area, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. famous bridges, universities, landmarks, museums, civic centers, and a few different vacuum shops. plus, the progress pn this old place as well as the plans for dinner. Yes, I think we'll "kick off Summer" with a nice casual yet comfy and fun garden party. Why not? Right?

just to check on things. Our members need to remember to mention The VCCC.
I'm gathering all of my bojack bags, tools, etc, to give to others. Some are actually made FOR others BY Hoover. They did that a lot. I stood in Bag plant #2, where it all happened. They told me that the large roll of exclusive filter paper came from my "neck of the woods", the Poconos. I'm sure some of our friends will appreciate all of these items.

A few folks have asked what vacuum shops are going to be visited. They want to google them so they have an idea where they are. Any names?
And to be clear, there is no banquet at the hotel? It will be held in a different venue? There will be a meeting room for vacuums to display with areas for buy/sell/trade? Will that be at the hotel? Thanks in advance! PS--just saw that the banquet is at a local restaurant. |

due to the physical plant at the hotel. The place is only 10 yrs old. It's a nice setup. I hope others will like it. There are actually 2 hotels: one has 2 beds per room, the other 1 King, same price, One building will house the meeting space.
Sometimes different is good too. It'll just be great to get together again after such a long distance, having to cancel Georgia twice. We'll have masks, too, if anyone feels the need. We can even provide gloves, if need be. We'll accommodate. |

the famed iced tea. And, no, not from an asylum that "I" may or may not have escaped from and am still running around. Isn't that silly and incredible? Nope.no fruit cocktail or old lemon extract dumped in it.
But...... that's just silly. I hope all will enjoy the tasty, refreshing beverage. Know who your friends are. |

the weekend of June 4. He was coming for the convention, but is celebrating his anniversary. I'll take him all around: Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, etc. He'll be shown everything. He'll also be a great help to me. Pics will follow when that happens. It will be great to have him here, even if it's not the actual dates of the convention. He would be welcome at the event, because it was his choice to leave, in good standing.
He'll help me with a lot of my vintage Hoovers, too. Looking forward to Tom's visit to Northeast PA ! |

It's a lot to prepare. We're having some nice, tasty snacks, too.
One of the nice things about the convention being in different cities is we get to see various areas, different members' home, collections, etc. It's always new. Nobody complains about getting machines here and there. Sometimes, due to travel, we cannot bring our machines. Other times, we can. That's part of it being in different places. It's always 'fresh'. Some have liked seeing the "preparations" through this thread. Some don't care. Others are annoyed. But, it isn't their concern anyway. So, enjoy the "process", until the real event. Thanks. |

The members are , of course, invited to my home, as part of the events.
There are some who simply are not invited and will not be welcomed. Sad that has to be, but, it "is what it is". But the rest, "hey, welcome to the 'palace'...again, a name given to the place by 3 different people, not by me. It's just a big old house, but, it is my home. It has opened it's door to people for over 140 years, survived coal mine subsidence, "The Great Depression", etc. Good people, good food, good fun. It's all good. |

I'd never have seen. I've been to Texas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Minneapolis, Oregon, etc. We've been to so many people's homes. enjoyed their collections, etc. So, it's always fresh. The food is different, the climate, the attractions, the collections.... And, every 'convention' incurs a cost. People go to eateries, stay in hotels, motels, etc. So, there IS always a cost, contrary to belief.

The Anthracite Museum. It truly is amazing. We were once a major source of anthracite coal. This museum is rich in history. There are several other authentic museums around here too. A coworker of mine at the college is on this museum board, and is arranging something great. They'll be listed on our paper. |

I know both cities (Wilkes-Barre and Scranton are stops on our list. He did mention wanting to visit The Dunmore Candy Kitchen..possible to take some chocolates back to N Canton. (It's his wedding anniversary soon.). Whatever he'd like to do, we'll do. I'll show him the old location of the late Betty Fritz , Gnall Jones, (written up a few times in The Hoover News), etc. Joe Kassock will join us for dinner one night. He will be a great help to me. True friends, indeed. |

I'm not ready, but...................... It will be sooo good to have him herein Pittston, finally...after all these years. I hope the 'guests' who share the house with me 'behave' during the convention. I know the kitties are being secured in a spare room. Harold has NEVER seen the room he'll be in. Should be interesting. Still waiting for a carpenter. Some stuff simply will not be finished. Very hard to secure a carpenter/electrician, cement guy at the moment. They are busy, or (my) regular guy is treating Cancer at the moment. Kinda hard to ask if he can stop over after radiation. Hope he'll be ok.
I'm making gallons of the 'tea', as, Tom enjoys it too. Silly little snide remarks about that. But, they'll never drink it, so...................... |

and some local history are printed. I'm also organizing Hoover paperwork. Such as lots of pics of old Hoover prototypes. Of course, they have been printed on the forum before.... the Constellation w/ switch on the handle, Convertible tools, Handisac, and the Convertible itself.
None of it is new. I got all of my copies in North Canton, from Tom Anderson.

those pics originally came from Tom Anderson. He is the one who "procured" them straight from the N. Canton books. I got them from Tom. Others obtained them from previous postings. Tom was the very first to have them, as, it was he who located them from the printings in the first place. Just giving clarity. Enjoy! |

Will you have the original Newsletters, especially the one of the Hoover factory tour in May of 1994? That was an awesome weekend, despite bad press by a reporter who didn't like us.

And, there are tons of past newsletters. I even have all of mine. I even have the one printed the year before I joined. There's a lot of interesting info there. But, some of it is quite sensitive, as it goes into detail about some members who can no longer be members. I won't open that up. It's in the past. But, nonetheless, it's there. It's neither my place, nor my interest to give attention to hurtful events. To quote "Baby Jane Hudson, "I only want to think of the nice things". |

yep, pepper cookies for his cousins who are going back home Monday. I'll make more right before the convention. They and the other desserts will be fresh and moist, as usual. Keeping "vintage", I'll go through the kitchen later w/ a nice handivac. I'll use the Convertible (with attachments) in the livingrooms later.

All 6 and a half dozen. It's time to frost them now. They'll be ready to give to Joe's cousin after pizza tonight. I know. What kind of Friday would it be w/o a silly, nonsensical bash?
Well, count me out. To quote "Love, Valor, and Compassion", "This is tired, Ramone". But........ hey......
the desserts at the convention will be: fresh fruit salad with a home made glaze, Toll House and Pepper cookies, and, my great -aunt's killer chocolate cake. It should be nice. 10X sugar is already super sifted, pineapples are strained......... |

a few dozen cookies and some iced tea. I whipped up the tea earlier. Both were exceptionally good this time.
They saw the front living room lined up with Convertibles, etc. They are ready for display and some will be sold. Then, they gasped (in a good way) at the Hoover lined staircase. They seemed impressed. Nice people. |

of us now. For some, it's their first convention. Sadly, a few great members are unable to attend this time. But................ preparations are going along. The Hoover banners, made for the Hoover Co are being hung (with care) in hopes that all members see Hoovers everywhere.
Also, time to give the cellar dwellers a little rub in preparation for the to go out in the world. There's a Lux anniversary polisher, an Oreck portable, a Bissel carpet sweeper, a Westinghouse upright, and 2 Kirbys.
To quote Dr. Hannibal, "Fly , fly now..." |

these? This staircase was ruined in 1942. It's been completely restored. The banister is 24 feet of mahogany (half was buried in a wall for decades), 15 wide steps. (I sound like my old real estate days). So, yep... it's the first thing one sees upon entering. Am I proud of my restoration? Sure am. Is it a great photo op for vacuums? Sure is. I could post pics indefinitely.
Perhaps I will. |

The chairs are here. The tables are here. The food is here. Sale items are in the car.
Joe has been a real help. He's been vacuuming with about 5 different Hoovers. He's dying to 'attack' the "Victorian bedroom... full of machines! Because my reg carpenter is battling throat cancer, and, it's impossible getting another at the moment, (they're SOOOOO busy), I've had to make the decision to close off the 'gallery/cats' apartment', and the Victorian bedroom. BUT... I/we chose several things to bring out of those rooms for display. Will Hem would go insane if let loose in them. Maybe in the Fall, Will. So, 8 rooms are open. And, yes, (seems to be one of my 'attacks'.. "If a door is locked or closed, it's done for a reason. Now, that'll be spoken of .. (like I really care). So......... here we go! |

And I just saw the vacuum of the day. Not a vacuum, but perfect to start off the weekend. It's the Hoover Floor washer. So this looks like a good omen.
Wish I could be there, but I'm stuck in Arizona. But I'm with you in thoughts. And I want lots of pictures. I'll be attending from the sidelines. By the way, Caligula is sending his best wishes from his place in cat Heaven. Have fun, Alex Taber. |

Well, we got off to a great start. Some of the surprises were revealed. We have a "GIANT HOOVER and TWO model 0s !! They came from the warehouse in Ohio. I asked Michael Pletcher (the reason I joined the VCCC) if I could borrow the giant vacuum. He said, "Sure! Why don't I just bring it"? And, so he did! I was able to run it along with an "0".
Plus, a film crew is here. More on the later. So, more to come soon. John |

went beautifully. The weather was perfect. Some members visited The Anthracite Heritage Museum. Then, there were cleaning contests, then, the "garden Party" at my home. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, thank goodness.
Tomorrow, general meeting, trip to a great vac store, lunch at Joe's, dinner at a great Italian restaurant, then, awards, etc. It's great to see everyone again, and to welcome new people. pics tomorrow. This post was last edited 06/25/2022 at 01:06 |

originally. However, due to COVID, that store is only offering "curb service" due to a family member who has issues. It's a shame. That store has been around for decades.
But, this one today is showing lots of vintage machines, talking about their history, even offering the club a special 'VCCC members' discount'. |

As I thought I mentioned, we WERE supposed to go to 2. But, a relative has an immune issue, so we were unable. BUT, the Aerus visit was excellent. "Scott" was beyond gracious. BEYOND. We had a wonderful time there. Then, we went to Joe Kassock's home. Again, a triumph!. Then we enjoyed an excellent dinner at Colarusso's . Back at the hotel, we had another presentation, then the awards, then finished the night.
More will be posted in a NEW thread. |
