Tom, you're welcome. Just so you know though, from what I have heard they are NOT HEPA grade cloth bags....just cloth. From what I have read & heard, the quality is acceptable & they are durable, but not necessarily filtering as well as a cloth bag that is labelled HEPA. Somewhere in between the filtering capabilities of the 4 ply bag & a HEPA bag. Also, when you look at what they are selling for the bags if you buy the 100 pack, it makes sense. It does seem like this is becoming a trend with other generic brands of cloth bags too....Bill/VacLab's tests on the Clean Fairy brand of Kirby bags certainly showed a notable difference in filtering performance between them and Genuine Kirby HEPA Cloth bags. I would definitely buy a small pack first and see if you like them.

There are also the DVC Allergen Performance cloth bags as well, although I highly doubt you could buy those in bulk and get a cheaper price per bag. And, while looking on the web, I think I may have found who Aerus is getting their cloth bags from....sure looks the same, minus the lettering on the cardboard collar! Interestingly though, when just doing a quick Google search, it shows the company as being Blue Sky and shows the photo of the bag, yet not when you go to this link...odd.

If it's the filtration of the paper bags that's making you think of using HEPA Cloth bags in your Guardian, there are a couple solutions actually. There's 1 company that supplies to Hibbert International here in Canada that is manufacturing 4 ply paper bags WITHOUT the blue sealing strip that holds the bag together at the back. Instead, like a Kenmore 5055/C paper bag, it's folded over & glued together in the back. They also make a 4 ply Style C bag the same way, & the Arm & Hammer & Clean Fairy Style C bags are also made this way now. I won't be surprised if I see other bag manufacturers start implementing this change, & following Aerus since the current blue Home Solutions bags eliminated the blue sealing strip a couple years ago. From my experience, both with the Home Solutions bags & the 4 ply bags, it's the sealing strip that seems to cause issues & break at the back, not the bag material itself.

The other solution would be to use a Kenmore C/Q HEPA Cloth bag to line the bag compartment on your Guardian, then use a paper Style R bag inside. Then the cloth bag would capture anything that escapes the paper bag, should you not be able to find a supplier for the Style R bag in America that makes them folded over & glued in the back. I know you have said in past posts you change your bag after each vacuuming session because of your dog Daisy Mae's pet hair stinking up the bags, so I am sure that rhe cost per bag would also be a concern too. This solution would strike a perfect balance between cost per bag & filtration.

Checkrate/Likes . . . a two-stage motor? I don't care if it's metal or plastic bodied. I did searches on this forum and I must have searched wrong because I didn't find a definitive answer. I'm looking for the last model that had a two-stage motor without a transition to a one-stage during its production. I want to acquire one, once I know what it is. I'm sure this has been covered before, but my searches within this forum aren't giving results that I find useful. Thanks, Joel

Checkrate/Likes I may not be too familiar with Electrolux but the one that pops into my mind would be this Aerus Lux 5500. I'm sure there were other Lux canisters sold along with these at the same time that also had a two stage motor but I just know that I've seen these later with a single stage motor which indicates that it's likely one of the last Lux canisters to use a two stage motor. Checkrate/Likes *Thanks folks!* Follow-on: were all of the two-stage motors house-built? When did outsourcing of motors begin? Second follow-on: I read here that late Silverados had a cheaper motor. Were they still made in-house at this time?

Checkrate/Likes The US Electrolux engineers made a significant change to the motor with the introduction of the Diamond Jubilee. They changed the rear bearing to a ball bearing and made the commutator much smaller. They would eventually farm out the motor manufacturing to Johnson Motors about a half mile from the factory. After the Guardian they went with the VM3 motor, which would also be eventually used on the Tri-Star. While I like how easy a VM3 motor is to replace, I do not like how easy the fan is to get off-balance with even a small amount of built-up dirt. The leaking blue genuine Aerus bags do not help. Always use a cloth HEPA disposable bag in your Electrolux if they are available (there's NO Hepa cloth type R bag). View Full Size

Checkrate/Likes Tom, evacuumstore.com does carry a cloth Electrolux Style R bag. In addition, Aerus actually did make a Style R cloth demo bag, just like the Style C one for the 2100, for the Renaissance and Guardian. Also, since I upgraded the motor on mine, I modified my Epic 8000 to take generic HEPA Cloth Miele U upright bags. They are the perfect length and size for the Guardian bag chamber. Just save a Style R bag top, wrap the bag door tube with clear packers tape to increase the diameter, and mount the bag directly onto the bag door tube. You upgrade the airflow performance and filtration this way. And a nice little bonus is the bags are cheaper per bag when bought in bulk than the Style R bags. Rob Rob

Checkrate/Likes 2 Thanks Rob: I bought 20 of the evacuumstore bags and will give them a go as soon as they arrive. At $1.50 per bag, I won't cry when I throw them away after one or two uses. I actually have 2 border collies and there's lots of hair. I appreciate all the tips. Thanks again TG
