I have a soft spot for these 90s Dirt Devils, and to find one with the teal color scheme is even better! I do have the teal hand vac, but otherwise that’s about all I’ve seen of them. Is anyone familiar with the purpose of the teal color scheme? Compared to my red one, the teal one doesn’t have the edge cleaner but does have a more powerful motor. Other than being a bit fragile these were pretty solid. I always enjoy getting mine out and using it.

Wow. The reason the teal non handheld vacs are so rare is because of the plastic composition, they become very, very brittle. I tried to take the cover off, VERY gently of my Extra HP, and it shattered.
Be careful with this, it's a gem!

any Dirt Devil not red in color is usually rare. I am not sure what color the teal denoted with Dirt Devils. I have a bagless Dirt Devil Breeze(?) in teal as well.

That's very cool! I've always wondered what those really looked like. I've seen newspaper ads for them, but of course in black and white. Let me know if you ever want to let it go. The classic name refers to a lineup they had at the time which I believe only consisted of the upright, possibly direct air hardbag upright and a carpet sweeper. The teal hand vac and extra hp are completely unrelated except for their color.

Just a sign of the times

 I think anyway. At first you could have any color you wanted as long as it was red or sometimes black. This is around the time that the big box stores like Home Depot were really taking off and eventually they would contract with companies and carry product in their own exclusive color, as Sears, Montgomery Wards, Penny's etc. have always done. Teal was trendy in the nineties and used in home and trim paint, cars, clothes, furniture you name it. It's still a popular color.

They had a problem with a black model 8-amp D.D.Deluxe that I have. The suction was so strong at the hose end that if the hose became blocked like if you put your hand over the hose end it would cause the front of the bag compartment to cave in and put cracks on the lid.

They fixed that with a more rounded and reinforced lid with a harder and more brittle plastic. I can only imagine what a 12 amp motor would have done to the cover of my 8 amp D.D.Deluxe model before they fixed that!
